I've gone a couple times. Never going back. United Skates of America is 10x better with better food and less of a wish washy policy. What you'll find at Forrests Family Fun Center: Overpriced low brand skates that don't even come secure to the brace and the wheels are wobbly with clicking bearings but he'll tell you it's your fault no refunds. The rules change according to the way the owner feels at the time so you'd better hope he's in a good mood.... The 'Food': I've had gas station pizza and burgers that are 5* compared to the food I was overcharged for here. Experience necessary: No assistance for kids who can't skate and no exceptions for the little learners. If your kid can't skate they'll tell you to keep it moving or get off the floor so you'll just waste $25 if they don't learn quickly.
Don't worry though there's a small play area with 5 spin tables for the kids that can't skate, so at least you can have less fun than your local park for a $10 admission. The floors are creaky and flex in certain areas, divets causing balance issues and the edge of the rink has a 2 inch gap that perfectly fit inline blade wheels just perfectly, conveniently, so passing on the outside is sometimes hazardous. The rink is small, the lights are mediocre and they play strip club music on thrift shop speakers inappropriate for young ears yet it's a "family fun center". You would think with an entry fee and skate rentals the food and drinks would be reasonably priced and not marked up 500% but if they were it would at least be decent food, think again. The owner seems genuine mostly but also like a 60 year old that just never got out of a mid life crisis, who just wants to cater to the club members. He's also awkward when dealing with children. The crowd here is really strange too. Some people just come in, don't skate, don't come with anyone, don't bring any kids, they just.... watch....It's a bit unsettling. I will not be bringing my kids here again.
Summary: Overpriced low quality skates and food, the crowd is sketchy at times, the policy changes on a day to day basis, the owner is awkward around kids, the club members act like spoiled toddlers. No refunds whatsoever.
Don't waste your time or money, go to United Skates of...
Read moreMy little boy is 8 years old and is autistic/Aspergers .he Is an only child and he is already struggling to fit in and be accepted everywhere he goes, being yelled at for learning to roller skate was not what we had in mind when going here.this place shouldn’t call itself a fun center because it was anything but fun .Mean sob running the place shouldn’t be allow near children and it’s disgusting the way we were treated.I don’t recommend taking children here especially if they are disabled and need support to skate because you aren’t able to stop and cling to the safety wall without being yelled at and embarrassed publicly .We were there for under 20 minutes and my 8 year old autistic son was reprimanded for holding onto the wall and for stopping on the rink to regain his balance.mind you,he was learning how to skate and the owner an older man spoke into microphone over the speakers to tell us not to slow down stop or use the wall ,which was always there as a support for new skaters he even stopped music and turning on the lights to scold my son for clinging to the safety wall to hold himself up. what a joke !after being yelled at and humiliated publicly several time for teaching a child how to roller skate. I finally reached the point of flipping old forest the finger!I payed good money to take my child skating and we were treated very poorly and humiliated publicly for simply going at our own pace and a child learning. Not a nice place to take children,These people don’t deserve your business they are mean spirited! On that note I grew up going there before these people bought it and destroyed the fun.it is not a fun center.Such a shame to treat small children with such cruelty for learning to balance on skates.this man wouldn’t refund me and my little boy either.he is a grump and a crook and I would...
Read moreThe owner of this rink and the staff who work there seem invested in making sure the music and general vibe are family friendly. Numerous safety announcements are made over the course of a skating session, and skating is stopped temporarily if something needs to be cleaned up / there is a big safety hazard. They even give individual age groups a chance to skate on their own during general skate sessions. These are some of the excellent qualities of this rink.
However, some really strange people were there when I visited. When I went, I got stared at by several much older men, and I found that some of the more advanced skaters were being really irresponsible around myself and the little kids who were skating that night. (Some even put hands on my friends while we were skating, in addition to intimidating me so that I would fall.)
I also saw a woman drop trash on the skate floor while we were skating, and saw two people find gum in their skates. Multiple announcements were made about the gum and other trash, but people didn't listen. Some of the time, I saw the floor monitors were going around to pick up the trash. That was good. However, I am unsure if the behavior of the advanced skaters was addressed.
The skate floor is very spacious and pretty smooth (save for some slightly rougher areas on the shorter sides--take care if you go!), but some of the folks in the evening crowd were not great. Earlier skate sessions may be better. If you are a beginner, I would recommend trying to skate during a time of day that is less crowded, as it...
