Before I begin this review, I went back-and-forth in my mind before I decided to post this review. I had an appointment today given to me by Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan by the social worker because my doctor said that this would be a good place to go for help when I arrive to the facility, I was greeted warmly by the young lady who brought us into the pantry. She was very nice very warm, very friendly, but thatās where it stops. I told the young lady I was there because I had an appointment and it was given to me by the social worker at the hospital. She said I would need To do an intake, she told me to go over to the very much older lady behind the glass. Iām not sure what her name was. when I arrived, I was very friendly. I told the older lady that I was there. I had an appointment. I showed her my appointment on my phone from where it was set up by the social worker from the hospital and proceeded to hand her my paperwork and give her my ID. She rushed me to give her my ID, which I was getting out of my wallet, I proceed to give her my paperwork. She was like Henry Ford is not even allowed to even make appointments for you. I donāt know where this came from even though I had just shown her the email and we donāt service your city. we service Dearborn Heights we service Southgate we service Taylor. She snapped at me very rudely mind you I live on the Dearborn Heights Detroit border, and the email stated that since I was a part of Henry Ford that they would be able to accommodate and help me We only can offer you an emergency box and you only can come twice a year you canāt shop in our store. You donāt live out here. This is only for the residence of this area. Well, I thought this was a food pantry and seeing that the food is being donated from multiple stores and itās not coming from your pocket. I donāt understand the issue that you have with helping anyone is my thought in my mind. she was so rude that I really just wanted to just take my paperwork and leave but no because my doctor sent me there. They said that they could help me and I donāt understand. What the issue was She then make a false claim saying that I had come there on 14 October 2025, which I informed her was not true because I actually was at the doctor on October 14, 2025 she then very rudely handed me back my paperwork. I almost dropped my license. And says you can go sit over there and theyāll get you a box very rudely to me again I was nothing but polite and kind when I entered this establishment. I was very accommodating to her even though she was very rude to me the entire time. not only was she rude to me. She was rude to another Woman of color who happened to be behind me who happened to have been a Southgate resident who had just moved to flat rock who had been coming there for years. She was very rude to her as well. Needless to say, I received the box that was pre-packed and had expired items in it, which I returned back to the lady who gave me the box because the items were from February 2025 I honestly should have recorded my experience because I have never been treated so poorly if you didnāt want to service a person of my skin color all you simply had to do was say we just are not able to service you. You didnāt have to be rude to me you didnāt have to treat me that way. This was the most poorest experience that Iāve had from a pantry of of which food is being donated to the community to help people in these astronomical outrageous times. It is so sad that I went for help and I was treated so poorly you donāt have to worry because I wonāt be returning but again I wish I wouldāve recorded it so that everyone could see my experience and also see the young lady experience who was behind me. I understand that people volunteer, but I wonder if Gleanerās and forgotten harvest knows how these volunteers treat people who need help. this is very sad and heartbreaking Again, this is my experience. This is my review and this is my 100% right hand to the Lord above review of what had taking place today Itās sickening we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to this pantry because I was referred By 211 call center and gleaners I had a bad experience why? I live downriver you would think that it helps all zip codes and treat everyone the same no matter the zip code even if itās on and emergency basis itās bad enough that to muster the courage to come get food because I too am suffering from the shut down and have limited resources you feel embarrassed and to be in those type of lines and to be treated different from others makes you even feel worse mostly the things that I got were either outdated or picked over or things people didnāt want. I stood in in line, waiting to receive a shopping cart of those full of food but again it was things that was either picked over outdated or no one wanted to consume for consumption while I looked on and see people get food that was they had a different type of presentation look more edible and desirable. It just wasnāt a good feeling and it is I never want to return again and itās really sad that they make people feel that way that they give people in their ZIP Code. Better food and they give the emergency or other people thatās outside of that ZIP Code food thatās out dated but if you still living down river you still would believe the still will be treated the same I even spoke up to a lady working there and she says thatās just the way it is unapologetic again giving food that people have picked over or itās pretty much ready for the garbage I will never return so thank you for adding more to my humiliation and making me feel more embarrassed to even be there I really wanted a bag of oranges and collard greens but was turned down...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a great place that is going above and beyond to help the community. It's run by mostly volunteers, of all ages, giving their time and energy to help people that might just need a little right now. There's a bunch of understanding, and kindness, and a lot less criticism and judgement with these people. God bless them for everything they do.
Now a little about it. The food you get is based on the number of people in your household. They give you a slip with a weight limit on it and everything is marked to tell you what counts toward that number and what is considered free. You take what you need or want and don't what you don't want, they take out the free items at the end, weigh your cart, slip some extras in and you're on your way. In and out in half an...
