Went to play here 9/22 with 3 friends for my Birthday. We had a tee time of 8:20am. We tee’d off when the “ranger” told us to. When we got down the fairway the threesome group in front of us wasn’t even on the green which resulted in us waiting 15 minutes to hit our second shot. When we got to the 2nd Tee, they hadn’t even tees off yet. So after we’ve sit and waited at every hole while they hit 6-9 times each, multiple tee shots etc it slows us down tremendously. On the 5th hole they I guess felt bad so they skipped the 6th hole and went to the 7th. About that time the “ranger” came up to our group as we are playing and told us “guys I want y’all to have fun but your slowing everyone else down making them wait on y’all it shouldn’t take y’all this long”. As we all preceded to explain “ma’am we’ve had to wait on the group in front of us every whole?” She wouldn’t listen and just said their a hole ahead of you. I said ma’am they skipped a hole? She wouldn’t believe us and just kept talking about it shouldn’t take us this long etc... so at this point we are all upset and trying to rush which messed all of our game up, on top of that she sits there’s and watches us play 2 holes. It was the WORST experience I’ve ever had. The fact I drove from Greensboro to Thomasville and passed nicer course to be haggled and treated so rudely will never happen again. We watched the group in front of us hit 12 strokes. Each time the ball wouldn’t go 10 yards. So we had to wait and then she was rude and condescending. Save your $30 and go...
Read moreThis is an interesting parkland course that ranges over a large swatch of hilly land. Many holes play considerably uphill or downhill with sidehill lies on the fairways not unusual. Course is not walkable except perhaps by an Army Ranger or mountain climber. When we played in March there was no rough to speak of and the grass was dormant giving it the appearance of a links style course In a way. Still, there were enough trees and Winding Creek itself to require some accuracy off the tees for the best scoring opportunities.
The greens are not fast overall, but most have considerable slopes so putting downhill can be an adventure (and uphill a test of your firmness). They rolled true and many were quite long or wide affording a number of different pin positions and requiring different clubs or shots depending on where the hole is cut.
Clubhouse staff were very welcoming, even gave us a free course guide book which helped us to navigate the blind shots. Get a chicken salad or grilled bologna sandwich from the grill.
This is a fun and challenging course that we're looking forward to getting back to soon, especially as spring comes and the course greens up. Watch the GolfNow app for hot deals...
Read moreIf you're in the area, and after twilight rate, you have to play here. $19 after 3pm and this place is taken care of just like a semi-private course. You will absolutely be happy going here. Not a single flat lie anywhere..including the tee boxes. This course is more mountainous then courses I play in the Blue Ridge mountains. Narrow. Don't really need a driver. I thought several times how did they even get a mower to a particular section.
If you don't like quirky golf or those shots were you hit exactly where you were aiming but the ball rolled 100 yards in another direction you won't like it here. If you're looking for something different, a change of layout and something to think they designed a hole based upon what someone drafted up on a video game...then you'll love every minute here.
I wouldn't pay more than $30 to play here at a prime rate so for $19 I could not have been happier. I was blown away with the conditions because I was expecting to hit a few shots, play about 6 holes and go home because the conditions aren't that great but every hole, every green, every fairway, even going up the side of a hill is all kept in...
