If you want to get anything done at this bike shop get there multiple hours before close or the employees will have totally checked out. Such a frustrating experience today. I arrived at 4:50pm--the store closes at 6:00pm. I said I was looking to buy an ebike and was interested in one of the bikes I'd seen online. There were about 5 employees lounging around their desks at the entrance, not helping anyone. I was told that I had arrived too late, and that I ought to call and make an appointment earlier another day to see any of the bikes advertised online. (The phone number intentionally goes straight to voice mail; I'd called to check in about this kind of thing before driving to the location.) (There's no info about needing more than an hour to try a bike online.) I asked the employee helping me if I could test ride one of the bikes in the showroom to get a feel for an e-bike, and he said they didn't have anything I was looking for (commuter, urban). I pointed to one that matched what I was looking for and he said, oh, sure, I guess you're right. As he got that bike ready for me, I said that it would be valuable to try this $2800 model even if my budget was closer to $2000. He shook his head. "Sorry, we don't have anything like that. We only carry higher end bikes." I said that surprised me because I had just seen 5-10 cheaper bikes on their website, which was what I'd come in for. He went to check on the computer and lo and behold the store carried plenty of the $2000 bikes I described. "Come back another time and we'll get them brought out for you!" he said. I thought, why not today? The employee did let me try out the show room bike, which was helpful. "Yeah," he said, after I'd tried it out, "come a bit earlier next time, we like to give customers lots of time, those online models wouldn't have been ready for you until around 5:30." I felt like saying, OK, and? 5:30 would have been great for me! I don't need extra time! I'm literally trying to give you my money and you're completely checked out. I left the store at 5:30pm, wasting a 40m...
Read moreI would strongly recommend against selling your bike here or buying a pre-owned bike. I sold my bike to them and below is my experience.
Here is what their website says about packing, quoted directly:
"Please make sure you follow the packing instructions step-by-step. Your bike is insured with our carrier, although any damages resulting from shipment will be reimbursed only if the bike was properly packaged and is at the sole discretion of our carrier. If damage occurs while in transit due to improper packing of the bike, The Pro's Closet may have to return the bike to the seller."
With these instructions, I had confidence that packing my bike to the letter of their instructions would protect me against financial liability from damage incurred during shipping. Turns out this is FALSE. My bike was damaged through no fault of my own and my resale value was assessed a $500 penalty.
I spoke with a bicycle intake mechanic from the company. They told me that "damage is only covered if there is visible harm to the outside of the box." I brought to his attention the fact that their website does NOT say this and showed him the above statement. He acknowledged the misleading nature of the website but refused to reconsider their $500 assessment against my resale value.
Since I accepted the offer (as the only other solution they offered was sending me back my damaged bike), they've posted the bikefor sale on their website with a $2000 markup! It seems greedy and despicable.
I will by taking my business elsewhere in the future, and recommend any prospective buyers and sellers...
Read moreI'm progressing in mountain biking, and wanted to upgrade to full suspension. I checked out what TPC had available, as I wanted to get the most bike for my money, but also wanted to make sure it was safe and in good condition. I had previously sold a road bike to TPC a few years ago, and found them to be fair, so I figured buying would be fair and easy.
There were several bikes that interested me, so I made a test ride appointment with my selections. I also did another sale/trade of my commuter, which I rarely rode as it was a little small for me, and brought it with me to the test ride to drop off.
I walked in and met with Joey, who got me checked in, helped bring my trade in off my rack (a heavy e-bike), and had a row of bikes pulled for me to test from my selections.
I found a fun, little Niner that had everything I could want and more, and it was in my size. I absolutely LOVE this bike, and the process was super easy. I am convinced this is THE way to buy bikes going forward. You get so much more buying used than paying new bike pricing, and you work with a great group of people. I'll definitely be working with TPC again. My husband is already looking at bikes himself to trade in his for something...
