It matters which nail technician you see here. I have had great manicures from Bella, and Kelly did an AMAZING job with my Valentine's Day themed mani/pedi. But my past two visits have been poor - neither technician could give me a natural looking nail color for my dip manicure. The first one was light pink (I asked for natural with navy blue tips), which didn't look natural at all.
Yesterday and today I had a bad experience. I went in with a photo of what I wanted, which was a plain/natural nail with simple gold and white lines painted on. I explained to the technician (I don't know her name) that what I had on was too pink and that I was looking for a natural color. She showed me a few options, but I can't tell the difference between light pink, lighter pink, and nude. (Kelly, by contrast, didn't even ask me for the Valentine's Day mani - she looked at my photo and saw it was a natural base color and gave me that.) I went with nude yesterday because the others were clearly pink. She dipped one finger with one layer and asked me if I liked it. While I appreciated that she asked, I responded that I can never tell what the neutral dip colors are going to look like until the nail is complete. At the end of the manicure, I had an awful peach color - nothing close to natural. I told her that I didn't like it and she replied that I should have chosen one of the pinks instead. It was such a difference from a natural nail that I didn't have her paint the lines on because the gold would have clashed with the peach. It's frustrating - I rely on techs who do nails all day to have better understanding of the basics, which I think "natural" is.
I thought I would just live with it because it's only for a few weeks, but when I got home I realized the color was terrible. I called and asked if I could come in today for a new manicure and they quickly accommodated me. The same tech took off the top of my dip and painted gel on in a new color. The theory of this was fine - I have had that done before and so I suggested it. Unfortunately the end result was lumpy, huge nails that don't look natural at all. Additionally, once I had a color that I was okay with, I could look at other things - and the nails on my left hand were all longer than the ones on my right hand.
The first dip cost me $59 including tip; the gel color correction was supposed to be $25 but they gave me a $5 discount so it was $24 with tip. On the way home from V Nails Spa, I stopped at another salon and had everything taken off and completely redone. The new salon did a great job with minimal direction from me, but of course this was another $60. In the past two days, I've spent $145 for a basic dip manicure.
I went to the same salon for five years before V Nails Spa, but unfortunately I moved and it's too far away now. At that salon, the techs would always offer to make things right before you left (which only happened maybe twice when colors or designs didn't turn out as expected). I was shocked when my tech yesterday told me that the color choice was my fault and didn't offer to do anything to make it more palatable - especially when I said I didn't like the color and that now I couldn't get the design that I came in and asked for.
I like the salon's atmosphere and location, and again, I've had fantastic work done by some of the techs. I think I'll probably go back although I'll be sure to call to book my appointment because you cannot request a specific person if you...
Read moreAfter some time to reflect on how my trip went last night- I felt it was appropriate to write a review. I have anxiety/ panic disorder, and admittedly I can have shaky/tense hands- I’ve been going exclusively to this salon for about a year and a half- 2 years and never had someone react to these issues so strongly. Throughout our session the nail tech was getting increasingly frustrated with this. I apologized at least 15 times in the first half hour. I explained that i have anxiety and i can’t relax on command. It began with reminders to relax and then turned into telling me I need to relax and eventually ended up with the tech sighing loudly continuously and saying things like “what the heck” shaking his head while laughing at me continuously through the session. I got increasingly more upset by his reactions which made these issues so much worse resulting in my over correcting and very shaky hands during the painting process- some nails have slopes, bubbles and aren’t cohesively shaped, the thumb nail is not fitted properly so my nail bed is visible. Undersides of nails are rough and slightly gummy. I was also told the shape I wanted would look bad despite this always being the shape I chose. By the time the full set was completed I was silently crying in the salon chair and throughout check out. Had a full blown panic attack the moment I got to my car. Sam (the owner) came out and asked what was wrong and I explained the nails are fine (truthfully I just wanted to get out of there), just the experience with this person sent me into a panic attack. I appreciated him doing this. However I think it’s important I share this experience because there are SO many things that can cause shakiness and tension in the hands and I don’t want someone to experience what I did. Berating someone does not help anyone in the scenario. I wish I would’ve been treated with kindness and respect as I believe this is the bare minimum people in the service industry, I tipped regardless and left in tears. I am sorely disappointed with this experience as I had truly liked this...
Read moreI am a licensed cosmetologist, previously a nail tech and currently a full time esthetician, so I am very familiar and very educated in the beauty industry. I have everything I need for nails and do my own (gel polish, structured gel and gel-x).
I went in to this salon for the first time yesterday to just get a polish. I did my nails myself with gel-x and could not do a French manicure on myself fast enough (was my birthday and had plans) so I thought I could just go get them polished quickly. That was NOT the case. I made an appt and what should have taken 30 min tops, I was there for 1 hour. I was amazed that they had to find someone who could do a French tip!?!???? They ran around the salon with my phone that had a picture of a VERY basic French tip trying to see who could do it. French tips have been around since the beginning of nail time! You’re telling me on a full service nail salon you had to search for someone to complete this job?
I wound up with a lady who could not speak English or just did not want to talk to me because I apparently asked for something ridiculous (is how they treated me). Well, I didn’t get French tips and wound up with a solid color with chrome. What was the cherry on top, if you know nails and chrome there are MANY variations of colors and color combos meaning depending on what color you use as a base and the color chrome you put on totally changes the color all together. Well, she had NO IDEA what I was saying and could not help me.
Needless to say I left with exactly what I didn’t want and they charged me $40 and I tipped $10. Most would ask why I tipped if I wasn’t happy and I did because I am in the industry and I understand time. Anyway, I will never go back however I don’t usually need to go because I do a far better job anyway.
I would also like to add that this review is much nicer then the...
