A Total Gem — Thai Baan at Tenmile Distillery

My partner and I just had our second meal at Thai Baan, and wow — it was just as amazing as the first. We moved to Kent, CT from the East Village back in 2020, and while we love it here, one thing we really missed was great Thai food. It’s my favorite cuisine, and Thai Baan totally fills that gap — and then some.

The food is fantastic. The basil fried rice was flavorful and comforting, and the pineapple fried rice (served in a real pineapple!) was not only delicious but such a showstopper on the table. The lettuce cups and spring rolls were fresh, crisp, and so satisfying.

Jason, who runs the front of house (and is the chef’s husband), is warm, welcoming, and keeps everything running smoothly. Service was friendly, fast, and thoughtful — our food came out hot and quick, without ever feeling rushed.

We started at the beautiful tasting room bar, where Corey the bartender made us feel totally at home. Super friendly and knowledgeable — it was a perfect kickoff to the evening.

The space itself is gorgeous — great lighting, great music, just a really inviting vibe. It all made for the perfect birthday dinner.

And on our way out, I happened to run into the chef — such a kind, gracious person. You can taste the care in every bite, and meeting her just confirmed how special this place really is.

If you’re anywhere near Wassaic or northwest CT, Thai Baan is 100% worth the trip. A...

Holy Mackerel. This place delivers on all the promises made by every farm-to-table joint in the HV. Most places have the same food ('refined & upscale' Americana), which consists of too much butter, bacon and garlic. You know these places, they're everywhere. Charging $24 for a bespoke lamburger (with a buttered bun and a pile of bacon and a garlic aioli). Ten Mile is decidedly, decadently different. An actual Scottish still, looking like a Willy Wonka steampunk fever dream greets you in a massive great room with a huge slice of a redwood tree leaning against a wall. Gorgeous bar, serving top tier cocktails and flights of whiskey by a knowledgeable and helpful staff. Follow this with some of the best food you're going to have on the Eastern Seaboard at Westerly Canteen. The extremely fresh veg, the delicious clams, the steak, pork, everything served up right by a FOH that is 1st rate. Run do not walk. (Didn't even mention the gorgeous setting, fire pits and accommodations made for dogs and cigar smokers - tables set far away from everyone else so...

Just a remarkable place all around. The setting, the building, the pot stills, the people, and I haven't even gotten to the whiskey-in-progress that is still half a year away from being released. They were gracious enough to let me taste it, and just from that dram alone I'm really looking forward to its release. They have a nice program where you can reserve your own personal bottle number for the inaugural release and all the ones that follow - and you can bet I jumped on that opportunity. Just like jumping on Promontory after tasting it from the barrel.

Their gin is really refreshing as well, not overly juniper-y, nor overly citrusy. Had a nice bite of spearmint from their garden. Cocktails were lovely as well - the watermelon one is a nice elevated take using watermelon infused vodka instead of just mixing vodka and watermelon juice. Personally I think watermelon infused vodka can often end up too watery or harsh, but this had...

What a wow experience! Met Joel and his amazing staff on our visit. He has taken such care and consideration building this distillery. His love of the craft shows as he proudly walked us through every aspect. The small batch product is clean, smooth, and downright tasty. Lically sourced wheat and barley are used. The gin was the favorite so far until the Little Rest single malt whiskey is ready for release, likened to Japanese whiskey superiority. The production room was immaculate with its locally crafted copper belly still pots. The cozy bar served up fabulous cocktails called The Vesper, I ❤️NYnegroni and many others. There are so many good things to say about this distillery and it's thoughtful design and color palette. Outdoor space with a food truck is surely a collaboration that enhances the experience. Thanks for a great local experience and exceeding expectations! Congratulations on a fine product!
