Birchwood At Spring Lake — Local services in Town of Brookhaven

When we wanted to downsize we searched for a community with amenities that included an indoor pool. We searched much of Suffolk County, looking for affordability that would allow us to still enjoy annual traveling. BSL was the winner! We chose a ranch style house, however there are condos, quads, townhouses and large houses. Our large patio faces hole #4 on our 9 hole beautiful walking golf course. Our neighborhood is quiet but if you are looking for activity, there is an abundance of things to do. Go to either of the TWO clubhouses to swim indoors or out, play billiards, Racquetball, use the gyms, lending library, water exercise class, tennis, pickle ball, all sorts of card games, bunco, mahjong , craft club Ladies Club and our Veterans group. Our golf committee plans couples, men’s & ladies leagues as well as several summer putting contests. If that’s not enough join us for trivia or summer happy hour. We are active inside & outside our community, volunteering & attending Middle Island Civic monthly meetings. at our new active Longwood library. There are many houses of worship within a short drive. We have a monthly newsletter that reaches each of our 700 plus households. BSL is a gated community and NOT a 55 plus community. We have a playground at each clubhouse as well as “kiddie pools” and have a children’s entertainment committee, who plan a Halloween parade & party and a Holiday party. Our association fees are less than many we researched & our board is accountable for all expenditures & tries to keep costs down. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 b/c nothing is perfect. Our office, board & property management do their best to address resident issues, but some can take time. The most recent security company at the gate are doing their job, & yes some guests have to wait for an answer from their host family in order to be admitted.
