As a longtime camper and now staff member, I think Woodmont is simply the best place to spend your summer, as a camper or as part of the amazing staff. For its campers, Woodmont provides a safe, comforting, and extremely friendly environment in which your camper can grow in a short 8 weeks. Campers get to participate in so many different experiences to help them grow socially, physically, and skill-wise. Campers at Woodmont participate in an amazing instructional swim program, one that makes sure they advance and learn new skills each and every day. In terms of activities, Woodmont truly has something for everyone. The camp day is filled with an even distribution of arts, athletics, adventure, and water activities. Campers who are initially apprehensive about trying something new, like the aerial playground, are encouraged by their counselors and friends to face their fear and "go for it." Woodmont's campers and staff truly embody their core values of kindness, confidence, and respect. Woodmont's top-notch administrators have done a fabulous job of instilling these values in our campers and staff every day, which is evident by the constant cheer, encouragement, and excitement that fills camp. Every person I've ever met at Woodmont is nothing but kind and caring. As a staff member, I also think there is no other camp that values their staff as much as Woodmont, understanding that day camp staff can change a child's life. Administrators and other staff are always ready to lend a hand and provide positive encouragements. When Woodmont says "where camp is family," they really mean it. The community that you find yourself a part of from spending a summer (or two or five or fifteen!) at Woodmont is indescribable, and the memories and friends you make will last a lifetime. I've personally grown so much as a person from being a counselor (and camper) at Woodmont - I couldn't...
Read moreMy two boys have been a part of the Woodmont family for 8 years, since Sam and llisha first opened Woodmont. I remember my first visit to the camp. I was carefully reviewing all the surrounding camps that were well established in the area. The village leader at Woodmont spoke to my son directly and asked him lots of questions about what he likes and what his favorite activities were. Honestly that was the first time any of the counselors from the other camps even spoke directly to my son, they had only looked at me. I saw my son, who was PRE-K at the time, come to life with him. I knew he would be in good hands.
Sam and Ilisha hire the best staff and have extremely high expectations for the staff. That makes all the difference in providing a nurturing, wonderful experience for your child. I have never had any incidents with fighting or name calling in the 8 years my son Brady has attended. Believe me, other camps, especially those run by sports venues etc do not know how to cultivate the same team spirit, the same nurturing and supportive environment. My kids attend those other camps after Woodmont closes and there is NO COMPARISON in the quality of this camp experience.
Finally, if as a child you attended camp, parents can rest assure that the wonderful camp experience can still be had in this day and age in the NYC area!! I have been so happy with Woodmont. My kids have experiences that will be remembered for a life time. They have camp friends they see every year. Our summer months hold the most precious memories of our childhood. Woodmont delivers the great camp experience we recall from our youth. Thank you Sam...
Read moreWe LOVE Woodmont and feel lucky to be a part of the Woodmont family. Woodmont is a camp where kids can be kids and are encouraged to run, play, cheer, smile, sing, swim and partake in the unbeatable camp spirit. Our 6-year old twins just completed their third summer at Woodmont, and again, had the time of their lives. They love the diverse activities, sports programming, special events and wacky dress up days. But the thing they most enjoy is the camp spirit and being a part of such a unique experience.
As a parent and educator, I am most impressed with Sam and Ilisha’s staff. They have the highest expectations for their counselors and every child feels valued at Woodmont. This past summer, my son learned to swim well enough to take the deep water test. On the day of the test, I picked him up after camp and he was grinning ear to ear. His first words were, “I didn’t pass…but everyone was cheering for me and I’m going to do it again tomorrow. “ And the next day he passed! Shouldn’t every child fail in such a positive, supportive environment and then feel excited to return to try it again?
Additionally, the parent communication is outstanding. We receive phone calls, emails, and pictures of our children in action. I am confident that my children are having a great time each day at camp in a safe, loving, stimulating environment. I would highly recommend Woodmont to any family looking for an exceptional camp experience for their children. It is truly a very...
