This place is fantastic. It was my first experience at a Drive-In Theatre, and felt like I was stepping back in time. We stumbled upon this place after making a wrong turn that put us 9 miles out, and coming back along this road. (We Googled it and returned later that night) The gate girl was very sweet, quickly swiped our card for two adults; $20 (10 each). You then drive around back to your movie screen. We were screen 3 to see The Rental at 8:40pm Aug 3rd. Posts are set up to park in between and we got there around 8:10 or so and a few choice spots were already taken! We got a great spot one row back in the middle. Arrive early 👍🏾. Bathrooms are in the small snack bar shack situated in middle of the field so from any screen its a short minute or two walk. Inside you can rent your portable radio ($5 + plus license hold) and they'll tune it to your movie frequency so you can hear your movie. It plays tunes until the movie starts (including the one or two previews) Note that for out of state licenses to rent the radio they ask for a $20 deposit also.. Or at least they asked me for it 🤔. The snack bar is super retro and just looks cool. All the snacks and goodies and movie theater foods are there for purchase. One of the friendly guys behind the counter even photo bombed the photo I took of the place, it was fun! $10 minimum for cards (luckily I had cash for the radio and then for the random extra $20 deposit). The radio was good most of the time, but when any bass hit it was terrible sounding! If you have your own good portable radio (with good bass) use that for sure. But we didn't mind that much bc it was all just so cool. Screen was clear, but be aware some people put the rear trunk door (suv/van) open/up and sit in the back so we did have a small bit of screen obscured but not much luckily. Turn your lights off including those interior lights in case you have to turn the car on to roll windows down/up or open your door. I saw in another review about social distancing and parking; it's mostly self regulated once you enter. You don't reserve any spots, so if a movie is busy I can see cars might park closer together. We stayed inside our car and faced forward plus when we went to the snack bar people had masks on for the most part. We brought our own food and snacks but if we return we will buy from the snack bar to support their business 💯. It was the highlight of our visit (to getaway east which I also reviewed) and the movie was pretty good too! (The Rental). I believe we could have seen the second movie included on the same screen (they have an intermission after our movie ended) but that would have been a bit late for us, but what a great deal! Definitely recommend. -1 star only bc the radio couldn't handle the bass, but...
Read moreThis place has been my go-to for the last 15 years until recently. Came here to see Endgame on 5/18/19 and the sound was full of static, so much that it drowned out the actual movie audio, in addition to occassionally stopping completely. The booth/ grounds employees blamed it on "cloud cover" ( the music on the radio station before the movie was perfectly clear as well as the previews , despite the "cloud cover") and suggested we move further back, mind you this is a half hour after the movie started with a packed house. We asked for an refund, and we were denied because the "owners weren't there". We were offered a voucher for two tickets to see a movie in the future. We tried again the following weekend ( 5/24) and had the same issues, despite parking 2 rows further from the screen, like the employees suggested. Again, the audio was perfect for the previews and music prior to the actual movie. Several cars had no audio whatsoever during the movie. Hiway needs to stop with the BS excuses and fix whatever the issue is, this is most definitely the last time I...
Read moreThis was already my new favorite local drive in, great double feature pairings, and with 4 screens there’s more freedom for them to pair similar genre classics with new films. Nice and quiet, no loud distractions - staff are friendly and it seems easier to find a good spot than some other local drive ins.
But I wanted to leave a review to say how much I appreciated the (made to order) vegan options on the menu! The “mozzarella sticks” were amazing and the snack bar staff had the courtesy to tell me their regular marinara has added Parmesan cheese, so they opened a new sauce jar to keep separate for vegan orders.
I’d suggest adding the vegan options to the website menu (I looked beforehand and honestly wasn’t sure what I could eat, aside from a bag of chips or French fries)…also offering an option for salsa with the nachos instead of cheese would be an easy/welcome choice I’m sure many non-vegans would...
