We were looking for something to do outside on a beautiful day on our Dells vacation and discovered this hidden gem. My son is new to fishing, but really enjoys it. This was the perfect spot. Kris who I believe is the owner, was so kind and walked us through the process. My son had the time of his life. It was very easy to catch fish, and if you have a child that has difficulty with attention span this is a great starting fishing option as the fish were were easily caught. They will provide you with a pole, fishing rod, a net, a bucket for the fish, and bait to catch them. You return everything to the shop at the end. We had the best time, and can‘t wait to come back and visit again this summer.
A few things to know before you go:
-There is no catch and release. If your child will be saddened by this, pick another fishing option. We discovered this when we got there, but my son was surprisingly okay with it. This was explained to us up front by the owner. If you have a sensitive kid, this is something to be aware of.
-If you are like us and enjoy catching fish more than eating them, there is an option to donate the fish you catch. There is a cost per fish you catch that increases by the fish size, which was perfectly okay with us and explained up front. My kids loved that they could donate the fish to someone since they couldn‘t throw them back. For a small fee they will help you clean and prepare the fish I believe, but didn‘t look at those options since we would not be doing that.
-There are two small fishing ponds. One with smaller fish and one with larger. Since we wouldn‘t be eating the fish and the fish have a cost by size, Kris steered us to the smaller pond since those fish are cheaper which was very kind.
There is a good selection of bait in the store, as well as some basic snacks and drinks which was perfect on a hot day. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. We will...
Read moreWe were warmly greeted by the lady running everything. She ran us down their operation. $5 admission per fisher. You use their cane poles, buckets, nets and bait. Two ponds with small or large fish. Brook, brown and rainbows in both. $5 for her to gut and clean all your fish. Pay per inch. Larger fish are more per inch. You have to keep what you catch. I saw reviews complaining about this policy. If you think you are a fisher you should know; landing a fish, especially trout, is very stressful on the fish. So you have to keep what you catch because odds are they will die regardless of being released. Yes, I’d like to better pick what I catch but it’s unethical to release in this heat. The larger fish are absolute pigs, they will bite whatever you put in front of them. This was wonderful for my kids first fishing experience. Even in the small fish pond, bites within a single minute of putting the line in the water. It’s not ‘A River Runs Through It’ but it’s well kept, clean and good for beginners and getting fish. She encouraged us to take the cleaned fish outside and take pictures with our catch. Absolutely will recommend and or return if we’re ever...
Read moreMask complainers. A little information from a local. First, there is a mask mandate from our Governor for the entire state of Wisconsin that states a mask must be worn when indoors anywhere. Now, I don’t agree with this mandate and I don’t wear a mask either and our local law enforcement isn’t enforcing this mandate. There are many businesses in and around the city of Wisconsin Dells that still do require you to wear a mask and some won’t let you in their store without one. I have known Chris for many years. She is a very caring and loving person. She is also very friendly to all of her customers if they are friendly and respectful to her. Whether you agree or not, which I happen not to as well, is not the point. She has a right to ask you to wear a mask in her store. If you disagree, simply tell her no thank you. I guarantee she will still treat you with respect and will not lose a customer because they refuse to wear a mask. Whatever you do, be kind and respectful and that same kindness and respect will...
