A friend and I took a mini road trip this weekend, leaving Long Island, passing through NYC, and on our way upstate NY. We had a destination planned, but somehow ended up driving another way, arriving in a beautiful, serene town that I now know as East Durham, NY. Although it wasn't our original destination, it turned out to be one of those life experiences that at first seems like you made a wrong turn, only to realize you discovered something even better than your original plan. As we were admiring the scenery in East Durham, we passed BOOM & BLOOM, a magical, vibrant, teal and red little establishment tucked back near a beautiful stream. It looked so magical and inviting, I banged a 'Uey without hesitation, (out of character for me). As we pulled into the parking area, I re-read the sign to see that they sold and bought records. My friend and I being music lovers, decided to go in and see if the place was just as magical inside as it appeared on the outside. Well, it was! In fact, even more so! Patrick, the owner, welcomed us with a friendly smile and showed us this amazing collection of records from every genre imaginable. There was also artwork of his on the walls, music playing in the background, incense burning, cool "antiques" like cassette tapes, cassette players, old cameras, cool notebooks, and all sorts of interesting memorabilia that truly requires a second trip to fully absorb. We ended up finding out we had both lived in NYC and had a wonderful chat with Patrick. He showed us around a separate building which had a music studio and a really cool workshop that was nondescript from the outside, but opened up to another magical nook on the inside. Earlier in our conversation, while chatting about NYC and swapping old stomping grounds, I had asked Patrick if he was musician. In the most humble, banal way possible, he said 'yes' the way someone would confirm how they take their coffee. The reason I found this significant, was when he showed us the separate music studio he had set up, I saw a drum set and asked if he was a drummer. He nonchalantly said 'yes' again, and then asked if I knew who the Scissor Sisters were. I said, "YES!" I remembered listening to their album, "Take Your Mama," on repeat with my friend James when it came out. As my mind was going down memory lane, I saw a scissor sisters poster in the background and a platinum record in a frame. In an instant, I realized that he was in fact the drummer from the Scissor Sisters! That just made an already amazing experience, even more special and awesome! I ended up buying a few classic records, and Patrick threw in 2 for free! It truly was an amazing experience. So amazing, that my friend and I will surely be back for another road trip. Except this time, BOOM & BLOOM will be our destination! GLASTONBURY 2024,...

We were on our way back from a hike and were soo intrigued by this funky baby blue building seemingly in the middle of nowhere..we stopped in just to check it out real quick, and it turned into a 4 hour affair of browsing, listening, and jamming with the owner Patrick,,so much fun! Such a GREAT selection and wide variety of all types of categories and genres, and Patrick is such a great host and REALLY knows his stuff.    Read moreThis place is a real gem! When in the Catskills, you'll want to pop into Boom and Bloom and check them out. These guys are not just the best at what they do, I'm pretty sure they're the only ones that do what they do. Super creative flower and plant arrangements and all killer, no filler, records. Where on earth are you going to find that? While the space is no warehouse, you'll be amazed at how many 'must get' records are in the stacks. As a super bonus, the owners are sweet people and have great stories to...
