After finding great treasures at the Creekside Flee Market (I highly recommend) up the road a bit, my family (my 4 kids - ages 11, 8, 5, and 4- and my husband and I) stopped into The Marketplace. We've been here before and like the variety of stuff, and the people working have always been pleasant. However, today was different. Today, we had one of the ladies working follow us through the store, and twice within less than 5 minutes of being there asked if we needed help finding anything. The 1st time she asked, I was thinking, "That's strange. Who asks that question at a fleamarket?" But the 2nd time she approached and asked the same question again, I realized she was just following us. After she walked away, I said to my husband, "[If she asks us that] One more time, I'm walking out." I don't doubt the lady heard me, but at that point, I didn't care. She was being pushy and rude. She did continue to randomly appear in the vinetts we were in and at one point even walked up and took an item that I was showing to my children, and was planning on buying out of my hands. I thought this was rude, but I dismissed it and continued shopping. However, things escalated when we went to check out. A price tag sticker had fallen off of 2 items that we were trying to buy and rude lady, who mind you want even checking us out, stepped in and (verbally) jumped all over me. At one point, I said something along the lines of you should know where we got it from you were following us the whole time. Rude lady waved her hand at me dismissively and then said, "And as for following you, it's my job to protect the vendors!" I was livid at this point. Protect the vendors!!?? From what?? Paying customers who just spent $200+ today or from kids walking around the fleamarket!!??? If it wasn't for the fact that my kids had each picked a few things out, I would have walked away and left everything right there on the counter. I walked out of there so mad! Were we not dressed properly enough for rude lady? Or was it the fact that gasp I bought 4 kids out in public?? There isn't a sign that says no children, and as far as I know, money from my faded jeans pocket or my flannel shirt pocket spends just as easy as money from anyone else's pocket. So which was it rude lady?? The other 2 ladies working were both nice. One lady as she walked by us and saw the amount of items we had already picked up, stopped and offered to take the stuff up to the register for us and the lady cashing us out was very apologetic for rude lady's actions. We have been to The Marketplace many, many times, but we will not be returning. We will drive by her and just go to Creekside only from now on. Rude lady is very bad for business. (I never leave reviews, ever, for anything. However, the way rude lady treated my family today was unexceptable and uncalled for, and...

Read moreWe were out Antiquing as we do most Sundays and ran across the Market Place in East Durham and was very surprised. This place is huge and there is a lot of items offered to spend hours browsing through. We found a lot of items to add to our collections and to add to our farm house renovation. The staff was friendly and accommodating with letting us stash our goodies up front while we shopped for more. Prices on items were good depending on the vendor but overall they were all really good. We will make sure to swing by again before we continue our trek across the country hitting every antique...
