This will be a long review Mr. Stu because I have a lot to share that is important to me.
I want to first start out by saying Mr. Stu at dx radio shop is truly amazing. Stu found the problem in the radio very quickly using his equipment and very sharp skills. He did a full repair video on my radio showing everything from start to finish. You can't get any more transparent than that. Talk about real knowledge, integrity, honesty and so much more. Stu will go above and beyond to do his very best repairing your radio. If he gets stuck on a problem or can't figure it out, he will be the first to tell you and ask others for help who may have had the same issues and were able to figure it out. I love how good techs work together as that's the way it should be. Thank you, Mr. Stu, for fixing my radio, it's been working great, no more splatter, no more excessive heat coming from the back of the radio, just pure clean clear sound and everyone said it sounds amazing. I highly recommend dx radio shop for all of your radio repairs. AAAAAAAA++++++++
Now let me tell you what lead me to dx radio shop and my experience with the other shop who lied to me and screwed my radio up to begin with. I sent my radio to slc radio and cable. He had a few videos online showing his bench and claimed to know what he's doing. I thought I'd give him a try being he was close to me, and I didn't know about dx radio shop until shortly after getting my radio back. The owner at slc radio and cable is Kevin. He told me he can make my radio talk loud and clear. I asked him to please do a full video of his work on my radio as well. I never got a video other than him showing before and after, never showed his work what he claimed to have done, never stuck to anything he promised me, gave me excuses why he didn't show what was done inside because other shops would copy him, charged me $220.00 for tuning, cb mod and shipping to go from New Hampshire to Maine. When I got the radio back from that shop, it overheated and stopped working 3 days after I received it. My locals said I sounded bad when it was working. My antenna is a 1.1:1 everything grounded good all done with a rig expert and Kevin told me it's not him; it's my antennas. I asked him if he understood smith charts, he said no but he had a rig expert too and my antennas were the problem even after texting him the smith charts showing proof my antennas weren't the issue here at all. I never got an invoice from Kevin showing the work he claims to have done to my radio; I got over charged and my radio blew up 3 days after receiving it. Our phone call turned into a big argument and Kevin name calling me to where I had to hang up on him due to his demeanor. That's when I researched other radio repair shops and found dx radio shop. The information and links I found about dx radio shop online led me to dx radio shops YouTube channel. I watched a few videos and talk about night and day. Dx radio shop shows everything, wannabe shops like Kevin don't and the reason is because they are not real techs, so they lie and hide and tell you what you want to hear then take your money and run leaving you with a radio that doesn't work. Fake shops don't have degrees, no license, no legitimate business, just fraud and fake business names.
Dx radio shop is in my opinion the best shop around. There is one thing Mr. Stu said to me on the phone, and I see it now, any shop who doesn't go live stream has a lot to hide, shops that do before and after videos only screw you over. Locals here said I should have never sent my radio to slc radio to begin with. There's a lot of misleading information slc gives out. Had they knew I was sending it there they would have stopped me and told me go straight to dx radio shop and I wouldn't have had any issues. Several people had had dealings with Kevin and have seen a lot online about him that I didn't know about at the time. Lesson learned but dx radio shop saved the day and my radio is fixed now the right way. Love your work Mr. Stu, thank...
Read moreIâve researched and read about many different radio shops, and the biggest ones (which I will not name, you can see which ones pay the most to be at the top of a quick Google search for âCB Radio shopâ) just want to sell you things, hack your brand new radio apart, clip the limiter, unlock the clarifier, replace finals and add unnecessary noise toys and âswing kitsâ.
Youâll see terms like âpeak and tweakâ or TRUCKERIZED TUNE! or some such. None of them simply want your radio to have crisp, clean modulation that is on frequency - which is what your radio is designed to do. These shops want to sell you things that you donât need that will ultimately shorten the life of your radio to keep you coming back for frequent repairs.
Now, bear with me for a moment. Some of you will know where Iâm going with this. There is no such thing as a NIST certified and calibrated bench, and ESPECIALLY not one in an RV. Now, can you pay to have a technician come through and verify that your service monitor, oscilloscope and other pieces of equipment are within manufacturer specifications? Yes, absolutely! You, Stu or literally anyone can get that piece of paper and the little sticker with dates on it! Is it important or required? That depends, as some places (like the US Government) REQUIRE you to have your equipment checked regularly. Whatâs MOST important, however, is that you know how to use, and DO use the equipment correctly, according to the manufacturerâs instructions.
I watched the Cobra 148 GTL alignment video on Stuâs YouTube channel (DX Radio Shop) where he goes through the radio manufacturerâs service manual, step by step, and uses his equipment correctly to get the radio dead nuts on frequency and actually used the radio to reach out to a random stranger hundreds of miles away, with clean OTA reports. NO ONE ELSE WILL DO THIS, either because they donât know what they are doing, or they donât have the right equipment to do the work CORRECTLY. After watching this video, I knew that I wanted to either buy a radio from him, or buy a radio to send to him to be my technician as my old one has retired.
After sending an email and getting a prompt reply, I spoke with Stu for several hours (after his shop hours even!) and ended up purchasing a radio from him, which will be sent out once he has gone through it, and put his sticker on the inside. Furthermore, he guarantees the alignment (AND ONLY THE ALIGNMENT) FOR LIFE. No other shop that Iâve ever heard of will do this.
So, I would urge you - please donât believe the fake profiles with the 1 star reviews, and only one review with no profile photo. Another individual from a radio âshopâ that makes ludicrous claims, wonât show his work, and is a wild hypocrite, has banded together with his customers and supporters, to try and bash Stu/DX radio shop, for no reason other than he fixed one of the other personâs radios and called him out publicly.
Give Stu a call or send him an email, watch his videos, see for yourself the caliber of work...
Read moreSmarter than the average bear. I live out of state and had a couple CBs needing repair. Most mail in shops weren't taking in any more radios since COVID. I came across DX Radio with Stu and gave him a call to see if he'd take them in and what his rates were. I was shocked that he actually answered the phone! Spent 20min talking to me about the radios and we came up with a plan to ship them over. As advertised, he works hard to turn them around in about a week, and when he can, will YouTube video your repair to share with you and others. Stu is a real knowledgeable professional who knows how radios work and has the right equipment and manuals to get the job done. He will take some time with you and explain the repairs or options, or let you know if the repair just isn't worth it. I had one 1978 radio that was just too outdated, with parts too hard to get, that would just be too expensive to be worth fixing for hobby use. (But if you are a collector and really wanted it done I'm sure Stu would do it and he definately has the know-how). Stu took some extra time to make sure my other radios were working well and well tuned, and many folks commented that if the adjustments aren't built into the radio, most shops won't take the time to make it right. We'll that is where good 'ol fashioned know-how comes in, with capacitors and circuit manipulation, quality results can be achieved, and Stu will put in the time to get your radio working per spec. He is very particular and fastidious about that. I'm so grateful I found Stu, and now have a friend in...
