Our car signaled and issue with our braking system. I called Mavis in Kerhonkson on September 8th, asking if we could bring the car in either Thursday or Friday and got the usual answer, Dave answering with “Bring it in any day that works for you. We'll be happy to look at it.”
The car went in Thursday a.m. Around 9:30 a.m. Before we left the car for the day, Dave said he wanted to check something, as he knows that several things can set off the system prompts. He went over a couple of things in the car, brake fluid level, position of emergency brake, nothing conclusive, but if we left the car they'd get to it same day.
Nick came out from the garage to say, “Hi.” Both he and Dave recognize us each time we are in the shop...nice to have that connection with those who take care of safety items for us.
And, as they always promise and deliver, within a few hours we had a call detailing the issue. A few parts were worn, again they noted that some of the work that needed to be done was under warranty (I've noted this before, as many of us don't keep track of such things, the team at Mavis does and they put that out there, saving us money).
The car was fixed and ready before end of day and we went down to pick it up. When we got to the shop, again we talked to Nick and Dave. Both were their usual friendly selves and, with my wife asking her usual “different” questions, we all got to chatting and laughing and enjoying a light hearted moment...something that's sorely missed in many interactions these days.
I have to say, myself being in a business that is short handed, as are most car shops, Nick, Dave, Mark, and the others there are always upbeat and friendly....and I know they're under a lot of pressure daily (some people aren't so patient or understanding), but they don't allow that to affect their relationships and interactions with customers. Not crazy, ever, about having my car need work, but always happy that we have Nick, Dave, Mark and those we don't meet who are in the garage areas to help us out!
Lifesavers...I know I mentioned this before, but it bears repeating, once when my wife had an issue in town, I called Nick to see if he could a tow for her to the shop. His answer, “I'll get in my car and go to where she is and help her. You don't need to worry.” And he did! Where do you get these types of...
Read moreCalled at 8:15am looking for an inspection, tire rotation and oil change. They told me to drop the car off at 11am. I dropped the car off at 10:15am leaving them ample opportunity to complete the work. When i went there to drop the car off i had to wait at least 20 minutes at the front desk before the "manager" Scott came into the office. He promptly walked past me 2 times before he acknowledged me. I told him i will be dropping my car off for an oil change, tire rotation, inspection and to top off the coolant as it was low and that i had called ahead for this to be done. I called back at 3:30pm to check on the status and Scott informed me the vehicle will be done today. Drove by the shop at 4:30pm and the vehicle is exactly where i parked it. Came back at 4:45pm and my vehicle is now on a drive on lift for the oil change. I watched them change the oil and never touch the wheels. Mind you i asked Scott for a tire rotation twice at the counter. After the oil change i asked the tech if the car was good to go and he told me it still needed to be inspected. I waited for half an hour while my car sat outside waiting for an inspection. I finally got tired of listening to Scott talking to another person about his "race car" at the counter and asked him what is going on with my car. Mind you i had to wait 10 minutes until he got finished telling his "race car" story. He told me it is in the process of being inspected. I informed him my car has been sitting outside for half an hour and thats when someone finally came to inspect my car. When my car was finally done the only thing they did was an oil change and inspection. The tire rotation and topping off the coolant was not performed. I asked Scott to provide me an invoice as this is a fleet vehicle and he responded that it is provided to the fleet company. I asked if i was charged for the tire rotation and he responded "No" in a very rude manner. So all in all i went there asking for specific services to be performed and to only have of the work was completed with no regard for customer service. The "Manager" Scott should be fired for his disregard to customer service. If i could i would...
Read moreScam, just a complete and utter scam. STAY AWAY. I booked an oil change with a $10 coupon applied to the reservation a week in advance of my appointment. I showed up on time and provided my name and license to the guy behind the desk. Right away, I knew something was up with his tone & mannerisms. He pulls up my reservation and starts giving me some BS about synthetic oil (vs blend which is less expensive) and that's all they can provide. Mind you, I called before even placing the reservation and was quoted $70 for synthetic oil change and $50 for blend oil change. With my $10 coupon, I would be paying $40 + tax so I felt that was a fair price. Back to the guy behind the desk, he said that they got some 'new pricing yesterday' and it would now cost $65. Then he starts to say, well , 'maybe I can get you $8 off, or even maybe up to $10 off'. That was just a scam and a lie because I already had the $10 coupon applied and he was trying to sound like he can get me '$8 or $10 off'. Then I told him I had spoken with someone FROM THIS EXACT LOCATION about the pricing over the phone and he goes into a story that those calls go to a phone center and they don't know the pricing. All lies. He then slipped and then said the calls go to Westchester. Again, a lie because I called and spoke to the people at this location. Then he says, 'let me go talk to my manager'. It was hilarious, he pretended to go into the other room to talk to someone and comes back and says there was nothing he can do. It got worse, I said, ok so how much will the total oil change cost? They scam artist now said, $91!!! What happened to the $50 over the phone let alone the $65 that you just quoted me!!!? I was beside myself. I walked right out of there. Completely wasted my time finding this place, booking the reservation and then my time spent being there on my day off from work to not even have the simple oil change for my car. I felt something was 'off' from the moment I had to talk to this guy who is only out to scam people. I wish I got his name. Needless to say, AVOID Mavis entirely and especially...
