Gates Big M — Local services in Town of Gates

The Gates Big M is hands down the best of the smaller grocery stores in the area. It may not be the size of a Wegmans or BJ’s, but what it lacks in square footage, it more than makes up for in value, quality, and service.

First off, the prices are consistently great. For a store of its size, they manage to keep costs reasonable without cutting corners on quality, which is something I really appreciate. The location is also extremely convenient, making it easy to swing by for both big grocery runs and quick last-minute stops.

The deli counter deserves special recognition. Big M makes the absolute best subs around. Fresh bread, generous portions, and quality meats and toppings — it’s the kind of deli sandwich that makes you look forward to grocery shopping. I’ve honestly stopped at Big M just for a sub more times than I can count, and they never disappoint.

Speaking of meats, their selection is fantastic. One of the best deals they offer is the “Pick 5 for $25” program, which lets you choose from a wide variety of cuts. It’s a smart and affordable way to stock up the freezer without breaking the bank, and the quality has always been consistently good.

Beyond all that, what really makes Gates Big M special is the people. The staff treat you like family from the moment you walk in. They’re friendly, helpful, and they remember their regulars. There’s a real sense of community in this store that you just don’t find at the bigger chains.

The employees are kind and helpful there and they do well keeping the store clean. The selection of items is not going to be Wegmans if you're hoping for that... It's a mom and pop type of store and because of that it has a smaller selection of items and they're typically at a higher price than you might pay at Wal-Mart or Wegmans at times. That said, it's convenient for me since I work nearby and there's generally little to no line so I can get in and out with relative ease and speed. This is the place to go if you need that item you forgot for dinner or if you want to buy some delicious bread. I will say that I was amazed just how much cheaper their meat was there than it is at Wegmans, I was astounded that I could buy twice as much chicken at half the price. They do rotate the manager special on the meat which lowers the cost but if you need some meat and you happen upon the manager special, snatch it up! The chicken I bought was...

Wondering what phase courtesy is in. I have been shopping at your store for 30 + years but today was too much. The young girl asked if I had bags or wished to purchase I responded no put them back in the cart. She proceeded to push them down to the collection area despite my cart being right by her AND WAITED once the transaction was completed so I could take the groceries out kid the collection area & put them in my cart! I worked my way through college working in a grocery store. I realize this generation has only a fraction of the work ethic my generation did/still does BUT COME...
