Kelly's Country Store — Local services in Town of Grand Island

Every kid’s dream. Soooo much candy, and so much fun stuff to see. We used to come here when we were in the area when I was a child, but coming as an adult holds the same sense of wonderment and awe for me. Kelly’s just has a wholesome, old-timey vibe, like it’s a part of the community- definitely not a corporate money-grabbing feeling. They decorate a room for different holidays, and you can walk through for a fun experience. They have hundreds of different chocolate molds and flavors that rotate throughout the seasons. We were amazed by some of the huge chocolate Easter bunnies- the size of a toddler! My husband was impressed by the selection of jams and sauces, and the kids of course loved the expansive displays of candy, and also the toys. I like the decor/gift section. We made several impulse buys, and they were all worth it! The kids keep asking to come...

I went to the store for the very first time yesterday and will NEVER GO BACK! A friend and I were the only ones in the store just browsing was going to grab some chocolates for my son’s trip back to college. Well the visit quickly ended when a woman that works there came out of the back of the store and told me I needed to put on a mask. I told her I was not medically able and she preceded to saying I have to have a mask on or leave. She was double masked herself, I was by no means near her and she was walking quickly towards me threatening to call the police and “it’s people like me that caused covid”. What in the world? By no means will I ever be disrespected by an establishment and discriminated against. I do not recommend this place at all. Who ever she was was rude, threatening and disrespectful. A wealth of great finds of interesting and even obscure origins. A sweet experience you can only fully appreciate with an in person visit. Wonderful candy selection, Perfectly timeless, nostalgic memories in every nook and cranny. You could run to 30 different stores and be lucky to find a few of these items, you could go online and search and search mirthlessly - just go in! The atmosphere is inviting and the staff is warm and friendly. Thankfully they lasted thru covid, and are ready and eager for customers. Always worth a look and a revisit. Tbh, I grew up on the Island, and this was always a treat to get a kid's sized 1/4 pound of candy that you can pick out by yourself - a Brilliant option for grade school age, I still remember it all! - and I'm still talking about it all this time...
