Five Star Review for Dollar General – Greenville, NY
A surprisingly delightful retail experience in upstate New York
Who knew that a trip to Dollar General could restore your faith in humanity and stock your home with cleaning supplies, paper towels, and an emergency bag of gummy bears? This location in Greenville, NY deserves a standing ovation (and maybe a scented candle in its honor) for being what every local store should be: clean, organized, and stocked like they’re preparing for a surprise inspection by Martha Stewart.
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted—not by the eerie silence of most chain stores—but by Dory, the ever-charming manager who never misses a beat. Rain or shine, Dory is there with a cheerful “Hello!” and a warm smile that makes you feel like you just entered Cheers, if Cheers were full of Lysol wipes and plastic storage bins.
The aisles? Pristine. Not a rogue shampoo bottle or stray candy wrapper in sight. Everything is easy to find, but here’s the real kicker: if you can’t find it, the employees don’t just vaguely wave in the direction of aisle six like you’re about to embark on an expedition—they personally walk you over like retail royalty. I went in for a sponge and left with a full cart and a small dose of restored hope in customer service.
This is my go-to upstate haven for everything from dish soap to batteries to that one random light bulb size no one else carries. Whether I need a birthday card, a new mop, or a last-minute snack, Dollar General Greenville always comes through.
Well-stocked. Well-run. Well worth the stop. Five stars—and a bonus star for Dory just being Dory.

Read moreIf I had to rate all dollar general stores, I'd go with 2-3 stars but the Greenville store is an exception. The manager there works so hard and does as much as she can, I've never seen carts full of things that need to be put away at this store like I do at almost every other dollar general. The workers are nice and most of them work really hard, there's a few people that come and go but the ones that have been there for a while really are good workers. I just think that the company itself needs work, they need to pay better wages to their workers or stop over charging people for items since they are supposed to be cheaper than...
