The response just came six years later or close to it, the pool maintenance company owner realized there was no way the ladders could be installed for the upper three pools by opening day, the sizes were no longer made, it was labor day weekend and they were opening right after that, he told me not to do the lower pools and focus on the top ones, I said it could not be done for the same price if they have to be custom fabricated over labor day weekend and I had to use schedule 316l 90 stainless steel pipe for highly corrosive industrial environments that had to be bent into shape using hydraulic benders according to the safety railing code standard. Bill from I______y pools said to just invoice them directly for the full amount as initially agreed and he would take care of the other ladders which were just standard pool ladders he could get from any pool supply, Bill is a man of character integrity, does excellent work and always paid ahead of time, I cannot recall the amount, March 2020 I suffered from severe covid and I had a stroke from it, I have been out of business since then and I am doing this from what memory I have left, obviously there was some communication breakdown in the mad rush to get the job done.
Unless you are paid upfront in full cash only never work for them!!! As a welding contractor I would never work for them again or recommend anybody do any work for them without a written contract with progress payments. I did custom work for them fabricating hand rails that enter the 2 upper pools, I could not purchase prefabricated ladders so I custom made them out of schedule 80 316l stainless steel industrial pipe and mounted them at the last minute! Nobody would have done a job like that, they came excellent, I worked 4 days including Saturday and Sunday so they could open, they said just get it done do whatever you have to and the cost was not an issue! They only partially paid the invoice and were very nasty, any other welding company if you could even find one to work Friday all through memorial day weekend, so take my advice, progress payments only and do not finish until you are paid in full! Better yet why even bother with them when there are so many good customers to work for who treat you with courtesy respectfully and are so thankful to have you provide your valuable services along with saying you should charge more for your jobs, I should have realized when the company I subbed for told me to bill deer mountain directly after the previous job I did for them for deer mountain so they would not have to...
Read moreDeer Mountain is truly like family and an integral part of mine and my daughter’s lives. I was both a camper and counselor at Deer Mountain and when it came time to pick a camp for my daughter, it was the first place I called. I hadn’t been back since my last summer as a trip counselor in 1989, but when we went for a tour I was so happy to see that it was still the same place I loved, and so much more. I was also happy to see that their strong swimming program was still in place. My daughter did not know how to swim, so it was important to us that swim instruction was a daily occurrence. The swim staff is very patient and knowledgeable with new swimmers and in no time, she felt comfortable in the water. The camp has a great variety of activities and campers can tailor their own program so if one week they want more sports, they can do that and if they are interested in fine arts, they can select options that fit that interest. The list of activities is unbelievable from scuba, to potters wheel, to paddle boarding, to zip lining, Gaga ball, fencing, photography, cooking, rock band, and so much more! There are also weekly camp wide activities including the beloved annual camp carnival and camp Olympics. There is truly something for every child’s interest. My daughter couldn’t wait to get on the bus each day! Campers are exposed to just about everything you can think of, some of which they want to explore during the rest of the year!
My daughter recently spent her 9th summer at camp and she looks forward to it all year long. With COVID, we weren’t sure if camps would be allowed to operate and if they were, what it would be like. Roberta, Carol, and the entire staff worked tirelessly to put a plan in place to make sure that everyone remained safe and healthy, while still having the great summer they were used to. It was a long spring but the stressful time was quickly forgotten and the smile returned to my daughter’s face once she was back at her summer home with her friends. As the saying goes, live 10 for 2! As a parent who was/is very cautious during this time, I felt completely comfortable sending her each day and was confident that the campers’ and staffs’ safety would be the utmost importance.
There is no other camp in the area like Deer Mountain, and I highly recommend it. Your child will love every minute they spend there, and will have friends and memories that last...
Read moreIn addition to being a staff member during the 2018 summer, my son attended DMDC for the first time, so I got to experience the magic of camp through his eyes as well. He bounced onto the bus every day and couldn’t wait to get to camp to see his counselors, new friends, and what exciting activities were on the schedule for the day! His energy and enthusiasm never faded and he was always excited to share what his group was up to when he got home at the end of the day. The assortment of activities available to him, even as a 3 year old, was astounding to me. He loved taking part in cooking, photography, ceramics and his favorite was swimming. As a former lifeguard, it was very important to me that he learned to be comfortable in the water, any real swimming skills were just a bonus. At the beginning of the summer, he was hesitant and would barely enter the pool, but to my surprise, by the end of the summer he was independently swimming and loved showing us how he dunked his head underwater.
As a staff member, I was lucky to be able to see both the day-to-day operations as well as get to know the staff personally. I was genuinely impressed by the level of care that all staff members afforded each camper. All of the activity staff were passionate about their areas of expertise and were able to share those passions with campers in an age-appropriate way. And my son’s counselors and Division Leader were incredible! I can’t say enough about how wonderful they were. My son still talks about his favorite activities, even in the depths of winter, and can’t wait to get back to camp next summer. Joining the DMDC family has been so much more to me than a summer job. It has been an enriching experience for my family, and I would highly recommend the experience to anyone looking for a great summer for their children, or a place to call their...
