First the good stuff: Beautiful clear refreshing water and lovely waterfall, super high cool cliffs to jump off of, and lots of shade. Some rocks to sun on and enjoy.
The rest: I'll put it plainly. If you're traveling from NYC like us, it's not worth it. Being from Florida, I'm no stranger to springs with all kinds of conditions, but this one has got to be the worst combination of factors I've dealt with. From the beginning, there's nowhere to park. After searching for 30 minutes, we ended up parking at one of the trolley stops and paying 40 dollars for the parking and trolley trip for 2. If you park on the side of the road you will get ticketed and if you stop and pull over to look at directions, you will get approached by a cop. Anyways, the trolley drops you off a mile from the entrance to fawns leap, which is fine downhill, but the uphill is an unrelenting steep incline. Oalso, no directions anyway, we had to ask the locals twice for help, which is ok but just be aware. Once you enter the top of where to descend to the falls, there is a sheer Cliffside you either have to climb down with a rope, followed by a perilous path and another sheer Cliffside rope descent, or you have to walk down a rock scramble that is also mostly vertical. It is not accessible at all, strollers and anything on wheels will not make it down. Also, if you're looking for a quiet place on the weekend, its not here. Over 100 people with several hookah machines, several smoked substances, and more so not good for asthma if you have it. Loud as well with multiple speakers. If you have bad ankles or mobility issues don't come here, and bring water shoes like cross if you do because even in the water its hard to walk on the rocks. One last thing, there is trash EVERYWHERE. In the river, on the banks, and wedged between everything else.
All in all, if you're looking for refreshing without the hassle, try Enders Falls or The Delaware...

Read moreIf you want to find a place that is a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley you have to go to Fawns Leap. 24 or 30 ft cliff to jump into clear mountain water. Water is not freezing either. When you do go, DO NOT PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. YOU WILL GET TICKETED AND TOWED. Almost happened to me. Prepare for a mile walk from the kaatakill trail parking area. Best free water park for adrenaline junkies. Just remember, do not park on the side of the street. Very important if you want to come back after having fun and find you do not have a car waiting for you. Also you are in the middle of no where. All that said, cant...
