Tried to apply for scholarship but they barely gave me much and were being very two face about it. Not the kind of instructor I want to join who judge and dictates people if they deserve to do art or not.
Update: Thank you for correcting me, it was a scholarship competition but I didn’t get much. The reason I said the instructors were being two faced was because they were leading me on that I would get it, only to get barely get much while they gave the rest of students scholarships that were over $1k. I felt lied to because of them and wished they told me straight that I didn’t make the cut so that I can improve. There are a lot of art instructor out there that hide behind a mask and I believe those instructors that I met (at the time) were one of them, which is why I decided to not come back afterwards. Lastly of course I wasn’t in your system because you’re only going by the name you’re seeing in this Google review but I can assure you that I was in your scholarship competition back then. I hope in the future your instructors would nurture the students in a way they would improve themselves and their work instead of giving them false...
Read moreI started going tot HFA when i was in 8th grade, and continued with the portfolio program until I graduated in 2015. I would not be the person i am today without HFA, Lisa, and all of the amazing, supportive staff that dedicated their time and knowledge in ensuring that I succeeded as a young artist. Their portfolio program was imperative to my ability to get accepted to the Cooper Union, where I went on to study architecture and graduate with a B.Arch. Not only does HFA assist in developing your artistic abilities and expose you to the world of fine arts and arts history, but the studio culture gives you to the tools to flourish as a professional artist and enables your success in a studio environment. Going to university after developing my skills at HFA 5 years prior allowed me to excel beyond my peers in figure drawing, color theory, and being able to participate in art critiques. If you’re an adult looking to take figure drawing classes, or you’re a young artist hoping to develop a portfolio and receive assistance in applying to fine arts colleges, HFA is the best program in...
Read moreI graduated from my high school and HFA in 2022 and am currently a senior Studio Arts BFA Candidate. I highly recommend the portfolio program for high school artists seriously considering studying art in college. I really discovered my passion with a lot of guidance from everyone working at HFA. In addition, I made many friendships with fellow students that are still very strong today. During my time at HFA, I was really into oil painting, and this interest has carried over to my current practice, in addition to my newfound interest in fiber arts and textiles. Personally, I think my favorite part of taking classes at HFA was participating in critiques during group classes (e.g., figure drawing) because it helped me to develop the skill to talk critically about my own and...
