South Shore Shooting Range — Local services in Town of Islip

I don't even know where to start. I've been shooting since I was a kid with my father but this was my first experience going on my own. I took a few rifles to teach my girlfriend how to shoot and I ended up getting free lessons in the process. When you go to a shooting range, or honestly anywhere that has to do with firearms, very frequently if you are a novice or not the most educated you feel like an outsider and you almost feel a bit nervous to talk to anyone. I walked into this store and immediately felt welcome and ready to enjoy my time. Every single staff member is kind, funny, outgoing and ready to help you enjoy your time there. Mike, the owner, was on premise (I don't know if he is there every day) and personally came into the range and showed me and my girlfriend a better stance and helped us have a more enjoyable experience. I truly couldn't have felt more welcomed at a shooting range. You read all of these miserable reviews about other local long island ranges and how the staff is unfriendly.. Stop going to those places and go to South Shore Islip. Even the biggest baddest looking dude there was cool as hell. I really could go on forever about how prompt they answer the phone, how happy they are to assist you.. The prices for the ammo were reasonable (not going on much experience there though). I walked out after shooting for 2 hours having spent under 100 dollars for two people and that included re-upping on some ammo. This was truly the best experience I could imagine at a shooting range, thank you so much to Mike and the team for making this place what it was. I'll be visiting frequently and I think they are part of the reason me and my girlfriend have a new hobby.

This is how a range is suppose to run. Just a relaxed and amazing time at South Shore Range. They’re extremely helpful, inviting, and they explain and clarify all your safety needs. Anthony, the owner invites you in like he knows you forever. His staff are friendly, helpful, hands on, and explains everything until you're confident and satisfied. They range itself is clean with a state of the art filtration system, which really helped out after I shot for over two hours and I didn’t smell like gun powder afterward. They also have automatically forward and reverse target motors. The back stop is made of rubber so your shooting at rubber instead of sand like other locations. The staff does have routine safety checks and they do a great job helping you adjust into the accurate shooting stance and hold of your firearms. Rentals are also available and staff assist from the second you sign in untill you leave, the range. The range is a well supervised environment by all staff. I highly recommend this location for all your shooting and gun buying needs. As they also have a gun store on sight. I only can say that eventually this location will be so packed with daily shooters that I might have to wait on line to get my turn. After almost 50 years (am I really that old??) I finally took my Dad's 22 rifle to do some shooting. I brought it to another local shop. They cleaned the barrel and nothing else (yet told me it is good to go). I brought it to the Islip range with my daughter, tried it, and it consistently jammed. Fortunately, they could see how disappointing this was and so we got a loaner from them - and had a fantastic time!! I left my rifle with them to be repaired (I wrote the previous shop's charge as a "learning experience"). They called when it was ready and showed me the broken firing pin and how now is was cleaned, oiled and ready to fire 🔥 I'm going this morning to try it out for the first time and have no doubt it will be a wonderful time. Thanks to Stan and all the folks here who were so understanding and accommodating.
