I don’t even know where to start. Id give 0 stars if I could. I never get speeding tickets, so I was unaware I was supposed to plead “not guilty” even though the proof was on my ticket. By being honest I screwed myself. Or at least that’s what these people keep telling me. Makes sense right? It’s been a nightmare trying to lower the cost. I am struggling to get by with three jobs. I went to this location during normal hours two weeks before Christmas week and the doors wouldn’t open. People inside just stared at me signaling “no” while I stood confused looking for a sign on the door. Nothing. Finally spoke with an employee walking out who said for the next two weeks they close early. No mention of that and of course no way to call before driving all the way out there. I’ve been making so many efforts to lower my fee. I’ve showed up to the building at least 4 times, written two letters- went to the law library to get help finding an appeal form. No use. No one can help me. Have been asking for someone to please call me and advise me what to do. Nothing. I asked if I could have a payment plan. They said no. I wrote a suggestion in their box. All in this time they just tacked on another $50. I’m up to $500 for one speeding ticket (not to mention the other $300 I have to pay DMV for the same issue). I am so upset. If I don’t pay tomorrow, I lose my license. I’m on my own working three jobs, so I’m not sure how losing my license helps this situation. I have to completely empty my bank account tomorrow and hope it’s enough and not sure how I’m even going to survive the next few months with no nest egg to buy groceries or anything else. They could care less about anyone. This is literally the worst place. No one cares or helps you. It takes a special type of person to work these jobs- to have no empathy and not offer any options whatsoever to people. :( I feel so lost and stressed. I’ve been trying to do something about this ticket for MONTHS and they’re not helping AT ALL. The VERY LEAST they could do is offer a payment plan so people can afford to live with the little money some of us have. Everyone makes mistakes. I had a bad day. Was crying on my way home from work and was just in a daze keeping up with traffic and I got caught. Unintentional. No ones perfect every single day. They should be a little more lenient with those who have a...
Read moreI recently went before the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency regarding a school bus camera ticket, and the experience was extremely disappointing.
When I tried to explain my situation, the judge was rude and dismissive, cutting me off repeatedly before I could even finish a full sentence. I was not given a fair chance to explain the circumstances of the citation. For context: I always stop for school buses. On this occasion, however, it was impossible to do so safely without causing a pileup on Jericho Turnpike. The bus was four lanes over, around a bend in the road, with cars in the turning lane blocking my view. By the time I saw the bus, I had maybe two seconds to react. I attempted to slow down, but a vehicle was literally three feet from my bumper going about 45 mph. An abrupt stop would have guaranteed a rear-end collision and potentially a multi-car accident. I tried to explain that this was, in my opinion, an emergency situation, not a willful violation. Instead of listening, the judge became argumentative and dismissive. The system seems designed to punish drivers automatically rather than take into account real-world safety situations. I believe Suffolk County should do a better job of providing a fair hearing process and recognizing legitimate emergency circumstances. Traffic laws are meant to protect people, not to punish drivers who make the safer choice...
