I brought in my Grandfather's 1952 Port Authority Police Retirement lapel pin to see if it was gold. There is also an inscription on the back of the pin. So the lady takes my pin to a obscure part of the counter and comes back with a no for an answer. Fine, no problem it was more to find out if I need to put this in a more secure place. The problem is she did not tell me how the procedure in finding out if the pin is gold, is they scratch it. Did not look at the pin until I was home and as I was putting it away with other memorabilia I saw the scratch marks on the front, side and back of the pin. Part of the inscription is also scratched. If I was told this is how this particular business or any business does the scratch test to see if it is gold or not, I would have liked to have been told. This way I would make the judgement if I want my Grandfather's pin altered in any way. Say I am naive but the customer she be told how this procedure is done. So, I am really upset, did not call the business to complain because I did not want to hear any idiotic explanation. Absolutely rude and disrespectful. I would never go back. I went there to selll old jewelry to put towards a new piece and the women told me that I should hold onto what I have because everything they sell is worth thousands & I wouldn’t get much for what I’m sellling I said to her kindly you shouldn’t say things like if you don’t know my budget. She said you’re right. Then after saying that she offered to show me her selection and I kindly refused. I asked for her name she wouldn’t give it.
