Hamilton College — Local services in Town of Kirkland

Hamilton has a GORGEOUS campus. It was the upstate NY college I considered the MOST strongly applying to, apart from Bard, Sarah Lawrence and Skidmore. Hamilton also does have exceptional academics (I was attracted to the fact that although it had a traditional way of grading, the school's curriculum is interdisciplinary) and students can self-design their own majors. The primary issue I had was that the campus was a bit too isolated. Hamilton was also a bit "preppy" for my taste, but I felt like campus life was pretty inclusive of everyone, which is nice.

The Hamilton residence halls were REALLY nice, and the classes I attended were engaging and conducted in "conference" or seminar style. which I loved (I tend to learn more from intellectual conversations between a professor and the other students, rather than a "straight" lecture). However, I was dead-set on college in New England though, so ultimately, that's where I went.

The Five College consortium in western Massachusetts was where I ultimately attended college (at Hampshire College) -- it was the best "fit" for me. Hamilton would have been ok I think, but too isolated, and I felt the Amherst/Northampton area had more to offer me than the Clinton area did. I could have handled attending Hamilton, but I think Hampshire was the better "fit" college for me. That said, I used to be a downhill ski racer in the New England Masters League, and Hamilton was near a LOT of good upstate NY skiing, and Hamilton does have a ski club (if I'm remembering correctly), but not a Downhill Racing...

Lovely campus and the students are friendly. They were happy to share their experience at Hamilton College. The admissions staff were also helpful and took time to answer questions one-on-one. In spite of Covid, we had a great first...

I remember my grandmother telling me "I don't care what they tell you in the reviews, this school indoctrinates people with undocumented and opinionated nonsense".
