Ten years ago this place had the best produce for the best prices. Nowadays they have the best prices, but half the time the fruit is borderline or already bad. I recently bought two pounds of white peaches that looked beautiful on the outside, but literally every single one was brown on the inside... almost like they had been frozen. I just bought strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and granny smiths to make Birchermuesli, which is a traditional Swiss breakfast dish. After spending an hour cutting strawberries, grating apples, zesting lemons, and putting all of my ingredients into a bowl, I poured in half-and-half that I bought here today, only to realize too late that the half-and-half has just started to go bad. I checked the sell-by date, and it doesn't expire for another three days, which means that it was poorly refrigerated. Unsurprising, since the refrigerators at this place look ancient. It's still edible, but it's definitely got a palpable funk. I'm going to eat it anyway, because I just spent 45 minutes and wasted $45 of ingredients on a big bowl of muesli, but I'm pretty mad about it. For the next three days my family be eating my slightly putrid muesli and hating...
Read moreWould give fewer stars if possible. These are the highest prices anywhere in the area (sort of like shopping at a small shop in the Bronx where there are very few options for local residents) and extremely unfriendly and disengaged owners. Furthermore, they are sloppy when ringing up items and I watch them carefully after several mistakes on their part resulted in "unhappy discussions." Two miles further south is an ACME in New Canaan with good selection and excellent prices. For an excellent selection and moderate prices there is also the Marketplace in Scotts Corners. And a further drive will yield many options in Ridgefield -- all cheaper and several with equally good selection. The operation completely takes advantage of the families living in the area and hoping for a fast trip. Also extremely unhappy to arrive home after some trips only to find the high priced raspberries or grapes are turning moldy near the bottom of the box/bag. For these prices and the reputation they seem to have of carrying such high quality goods, I should never, ever find mold...
Read moreI have passed by this location many times but then decided to stop and go inside to see all of the products that are sold there. There are an impressive amount of food products sold there. The vegetable area looked very fresh and there are a fair amount of dry goods stocked there. There is also a nice section of fresh meats and prepared foods. The products at this location are quite expensive compared to a regular grocery store. I did come across a male employee on the sales floor that was friendly and said hello to me. When I approached the checkout area to pay for my purchase, the female cashier was on her cell phone but did not immediately acknowledge me. It appeared I interrupted her conversation. She eventually put the phone down and did smile and ring up my transaction but she rushed through it and then went back to her conversation on her phone. It was not an overwhelming experience and I haven't decided if I...
