The Dolgeville Big M has both good and bad qualities. For example, they try very hard to have all the necessary items in stock even during the Pandemic of Covid-19, and they should be thanked for their efforts. Hats off to stepping up to the challenge. They offer local delivery and that is a tremendous asset to the small community.
On the downside, their prices are consistently high on staple items such as milk, eggs, bread, cereal and canned good. It is understandable that they cannot compete with large retailers in pricing. I do think they could invest in lowering their prices, or run more sales, because their local customer base includes many people who are on fixed incomes, elderly or disabled customers, and families who struggle with poverty due to persistent low wages and lack of economic growth in the area.
The younger employees who often work in the evening could benefit from training to become more professional, and to focus on better assisting customers. For example, I stopped in recently to purchase some groceries and realized I did not have a face mask. I kindly asked a young man at customer service if the store provided disposable masks for customer use, and I received a curt reply of “No we don’t you have to buy one,” and he pointed vaguely.
I left the store and they lost my business because they could not offer me a disposable mask which would cost them pennies.

The freshest fruits & veggies, cant beat the meet department; such a large selection of all meets to choose from. The deli is quick & efficient. The store has a great new look and the staff are all great, very friendly. The Very best in customer service.
