Valley Market — Local services in Town of Middleburgh

I wish I could give a better review, but I can promise this review was well thought through, and I am trying to keep it non judgmental and speak from first hand experiences. As a local town store, they do have a nice selection of items and one feature I do enjoy, yes going to the big box chains you get a lot more options, the problem I have is the LOT MORE OPTIONS factor, to many in my opinion. So for being a local store in the country, the selection factor is good enough to save me a 15 minute trip to Cobleskill and avoid the larger stores and frustrations that come with shopping at larger stores. The store is always clean and well organized as well, which makes shopping quick and convenient because everything is right where it has been since open, so I can just go in and grab and go. For the most part the check out process is fairly quick as well. With that being said, I'm not a huge fan of some of the staff that works at this store, as an air of arrogance at times fills the store and it's not coming from the younger generation employee's working there, it's from those in power. Oddly enough the younger generation ones that work here are usually very interactive with the customers, they are efficient and quick. Some of the issues lie with the senior staff or management who rarely seem to interact with customers, on occasion when one of them do cash out, I've personally experienced them having side conversations, commenting on something negatively weather internal or external. I've also seen management scolding their employee's publicly in front of other customers. I have seen the staff come and go quite frequently, which tells me there is a lot more of an underlying story when you see staffing changes as frequent as this store has. The prices here are horrendous if I were to put a statistic to it, 7 / 10 items are over priced compared to going to Dollar General right up the street, or taking the 15 minutes to zip into Cobleskill where Walmart, Price Chopper are prominent, or Hannaford which is about 15 minutes the other direction. Updating my 5 star review. My husband bought 2 packages of ribs here Friday night. This morning (Sunday) he opened them and one package was absolutely rancid. It smelled so bad it was hard to get the smell out of our house. He brought the ribs back to the market. They told him to go pick a new package. But the new package was a little more expensive. They made him pay the difference! The times of stores making up for their mistakes is long gone and it's honestly so disappointing. They should have given him a new package regardless of the cost difference because they sold bad meat. I have always loved the convenience of having a market so close but this experience will make me think twice about...

Some things are obviously way to expensive but I found pumpernickel bagels and some of the best roast beef 🍖... An just the friendlier staff... PC and Walmart are not to bad..... But more of a family atmosphere and finding things are not available anywhere else..??!! So all and all since you're way to far from anything else.... My experience was much better than anytime I've shopped anywhere else..!!! Great people and literally more homely like feel... Will definitely...
