I would love to give this place more stars, but our experience and subsequent follow-up (or lack thereof) makes it impossible to do so. I booked the upper floor for one night, which is not the norm, but there was a single night available. It was for my husband’s birthday, mid October. The room wasn’t ready until 5:00 pm and was freezing when we got there (old stone building). The fireplace was not working and there was no heat. We called right away and spent about 20 minutes on the phone with a matinee worker who tried to walk us through the steps of turning on the fireplace to no avail. We then texted the owner who turned on the boiler. However, that did not work either, and the radiators were ice cold. We spent the entire night trying to warm up in the bathtub and continued to reach out. We woke up frozen throughout the night, and in the morning called the owner again. When she called back, her response was “I hope it made you more snuggly!” I explained that we were pretty miserable and that the night did not end up being the type of birthday I had planned. We weren’t even able to use the living room or kitchen due to it being so cold. I told her I thought a reduced rate or partial refund seemed appropriate and received no answer. She has just been ignoring me. It was not an inexpensive stay and I would have expected her to care more about better guest satisfaction. Kind of a horrible and cold way to...
Read moreWe had our wedding here, and it gets 4 stars for a couple of reasons: -the flexibility of the venue (allows you to bring your own alcohol, pick your own caterer, etc.) -location (near a good hotel, not too far outside Madison, plenty of parking, right on the river) -beautiful setting (the grounds and mill are beautiful!) -accommodations if you want them (airbnb upstairs and across the street, getting ready room, etc.)
It is outdoors, so all the usual Wisconsin weather factors come into play. Our wedding had heat and bugs, because...it was July in Wisconsin so of course it did!
The venue coordinator is super friendly and laid back. If you're looking for someone chill who can throw together anything last minute, she's very...
Read moreThe Mill is actually a collection of several businesses adjacent to a park along the Sugar River. A small stage features free acts on weekends with a family friendly atmosphere. We've always seen three generations there. Although some chairs are provided, bring your own lawn chairs to be sure. Brews on site, a good selection of wines and drinks, and a taqueria are all right there, with pizza across the street. Just a pleasant, relaxing outdoor experience. The area keeps growing...7 Acre Dairy is open with a boutique set of rooms, ice cream parlor, restaurant and very expensive bar. Out back this winter was a modest Christkindlemarket that drew the biggest crowds we've ever...
