FORD WAS THERE, AND SO WERE WE EVERY DAY WAS A GIFT AND : a helicopter flight for both of us! I had to get a shoehorn, sledgehammer and yoga to get in buft: the pain after was a joy and a reoccurring dream all night and the next day. No offense four brave people and the pilot helped get my brittle body within and 6 to get out : THANKS A HUNDRED TIMES ON A BLACK BOARD IS NOT ENOUGH, but may God, and I'm sure he's has and will, bless the many that made up for the few. We must have seemed like that,, ,,almost,,,, years almost go when we could walk and not sleep for only a few minutes a day and to get an "extra" "T"shirt, because the first one changed colors, became unread/ unllegible and could walk and talk by itself! Alligator face and arms: necks like lobsters and shoes like mudboots? About a hundred years ago, when we were a little younger! V BCK then we begged for years & days to get to volunteer because we were poor, the rich ABUSED us for the first few days, then thanked us after two and treated us like lost cousins by the middle then treated up like their fronds by the end? The next year ( or event, Sun N Fun Or CAF ) It began all over again. Until we became a little bit more vertical and resistant to foot prints and :they began to remember history and decided not to relive the same mistakes, stress, confusion and enjoy the relationships between RICE & POOR flyers, actually or going to be one way or another! These days : with all the new : PCBS it gers serious & more agrees I've N almost combative? (at first) Kinda like : Christmas for only a week or two out of the year ( except for the GREED merchants) then back to battle gain til the next holiday "week or two"?

Read moreI am from Oshkosh so I am not new to EAA AirVenture. I am not too excited about aviation but this experience is one not to miss. Leaving, I had more enthusiasm for aviation. It has been years since I visited. It is outstanding. There is so much to see. Many things for kids to experience and do. The airshows are phenomenal. There are so many people but the place is huge so it isn't bad. It is great for the kids or plane enthusiasts to walk up and see the planes and talk to the pilots. The cargo ship was bigger than I could have imagined. All the military aircraft were so neat. Then there are sea planes, cesnas, experimental planes, sea planes-I could go on forever.
It is July so it is hot. We took refuge under plane wings which was fun. There are many restaurants and places to get drinks. You can also bring your own food and drink in!! No alcohol. Strollers and wagons are fine too. I suggest air protection. The airshows have loud jets and bomb simulations. Aviation enthusiasts have workshops and other fun scheduled events. You can learn how to make your own plane!
Everyone is so nice and there are half a million people that attend. There are some downsides. Traffic is terrible. If you are entering from inside the city it may take 30 minutes to get to the first parking lot. We came on the highway from the north. Once we got off the highway, it took 1.5 hours to park. I suggest good music, maybe a game, and a snack in the car. Parking is $25 or $30 cash only. Good to be prepared. We left before the night show and it was quick and easy. I bet it will be a long wait to get out after the airshow.
If you are driving a long way, book a place to stay or camp for next year now. I wonder if a year ahead is even enough time. Other towns to stay in include Neenah, Menasha, Appleton, Fond du Lac, even De Pere and Green Bay which is a drive but not bad. It will be hard to find a place. Wisconsin is full of wonderful things to do if you need a half or full day...
Read moreI am a hated minority, and I've found prejudice at AirVenture at Oshkosh before—not since 1987 to 2023, but I have in 2023, 2024, and 2025. To check on this before going, I asked a long-term core member at a volunteer area, who I'd known for maybe 30 years, and she said I was most welcome to volunteer there. I then drove about 3,000 miles there and back. I was kind, intending to be helpful, but I faced abuse when I began to volunteer, in the form of ghosting, a leader treating me as though I weren't there, wouldn't recognize me, talk to me, hear me, even look at me. That takes work to do, to pull off; it wasn't an accident. It was a total rejection, which hurts. The culture has changed in these last few years, as it wasn't this way before. I'd volunteered there many times over the last few decades. AirVenture receives Guests from all over the world, of all kinds, every race, orientation, nature, sex, gender, religion, national creed, etc., but among their own, they reject. And I don't think it's warranted. FWIW, I am "pedigreed," as it were, with a strong aviation background. My husband ran Engineering flight Test at Lockheed Skunkworks, over the SR-71, U-2, and made the 1st 2 Air Force Ones for President Eisenhower. He has been to KOSH with me and volunteered there, too. I am an EAA Life member, an ATP S&M and CFI, experience and owning WarBirds, antiques, ragwings, taildraggers and spamcans. I've volunteered there many times in the past, and I'm the same person now as then. Yet, in these modern, changed times, I'm treated as dirt. I've also informed EAA Leadership, who did nothing—same as the nothing they did in 2023 and 2024. In the decades past, I believe I was likely an "undesirable," too, but now it seems it's okay to ram it home. I advise against going to Oshkosh, supporting that kind of behavior. In truth, when they get nearly a million people, the variety is incalculable. They need to think about what they are...
