We chose this kennel because it advertised itself as a “luxury pet resort” and because our pup loves water. We felt like they were misleading lots of overnight owners so we had to post this review in the hopes the owner decides to change their policies.
In case you aren’t told or are unaware, dogs are put to bed at 6 PM right after being fed dinner and not let out again until 7 AM — a 13-hour stretch without a bathroom break and without any interaction (!!!). This was insane to me when I found out. I looked it up and this is far beyond the 8–10 hours recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association and Humane Society. Going that long without relief can lead to urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and kidney issues, especially for young dogs still developing bladder control. We were told dogs only get an evening break if they’re awake or pacing, which means they have to be in visible distress during the one time period someone checks in at night. We only found this out the morning after his first night when he had an accident in his room. I couldn’t believe they would feed him dinner and then not take him on a potty break and keep him alone and cooped up for a 13-hour stretch!?
We then offered to pay additional on top of the luxury villa he was already in to get him a guaranteed potty break. This should be a basic standard…
On top of this, when we picked him up, he had two separate cuts on his nose, one from the first night that they said was from his “accident” (??) and another unexplained at pickup. We were given multiple contradictory explanations — the carpet, doggy door, “kennel nose” and “we don’t know” — indicating no one actually saw what happened. Its less about the injury and more about not actually knowing what happened that still bothers me. Injuries that cause bleeding should be noticed, documented, and communicated to owners right away if supervision is truly continuous, as it should be.
For the cost and the “luxury” promise, we wanted him to be safe at a bare minimum and that didn’t happen. If your dog is much older, you might be alright but it doesn’t change the fact that this policy is wrong. It really haunts me that they operate overnights this way and I hope management reviews their overnight and incident-tracking policies so future dogs are better protected. Maybe stick...
Read moreI can’t say enough nice things about this place. I would give them 10 stars if I could. My dog Cooper had a bad experience at a doggy day camp a few years back where he was attacked completely unprovoked. This instilled fear within him and unfortunately I had to stop taking him. I recently had moved to the area and was going away abroad for a few days, normally I have someone come to my place and let him out, feed him, etc. I happen to do some research about doggy day camps/boarding in the area and came across this place. From the moment I first called they were all so so incredibly nice, helpful and informative. I explained Coopers situation and they made me feel so comfortable about bringing him there and seeing how he does. Of course I was still hesitant and nervous. Especially since my dog is now a bit older and can be grumpier on some days. I dropped him off for the initial “interview” to see how he interacted with the other dogs. While he was there they actually emailed me over pictures while he was playing and having a great time. When it was time to pick him up they said he did great and he would do great with boarding as well.
I boarded him a couple weeks ago for 6 days/5 nights and it was the best decision I’ve made. They once again emailed pictures/updates of how he was doing. I was even able to get access to the camera in the little room he was staying in if I wanted to check in and say hi.
I’ve never been able to relax more on a vacation before knowing he was in such great care. I was even able to get him in for a bath the morning before I picked him up. He came home smelling fresh/clean and was so fluffy with a little bandana on. Most importantly he was happy too!
I definitely plan to be using the woodlands again in the future. Thank you all again so much for taking such great care of cooper.
Highly highly recommend...
Read moreWe adopted Hazel in November 2020 and all we knew is that she came from down south. After a month we realized Hazel must’ve been severely abused because she was terrified of people besides those in our immediate family. And when she was scared she would become aggressive. We spent a lot of money in working with a trainer, but she was still terrified of people. We thought we would never be able To take vacations again because we looked for daycares and boarding but no one would take a chance on Hazel….until we found Woodlands Luxury Pet Resort. We explained to Dan, the owner, about Hazel’s aggression, but we assured him she was such a sweet dog to us. He was the only one who said “yes, we’ll work with Hazel”. Hazel immediately took a liking to staff member Brittany and we were amazed that Hazel went straight to her without hesitating the first time we brought her there! We’ve never seen her do that with a stranger before!! That was only the beginning. The staff at Woodlands were so patient with Hazel and let Hazel take the lead in gaining her trust. It was such a magical process and a year later Hazel is a completely different dog. She is so excited when she goes to Woodlands and has the best time when she is there!! And she even lets them groom her. They must be miracle workers because we never would have imagined she would trust anyone else! We would definitely recommended Woodland Luxury Pet Pet Resort! They take the time to get to know your pet and treat your pet as...
