Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory — Local services in Town of Oyster Bay

I came here for a conference with my entire lab. This is a really neat place to attend a conference and I've heard good things about the classes, but two things let me down. 1) One of my lab mates is vegan and had very little options for food the entire time. Even the vegetable sides typically had butter/cheese/bacon. For the banquet she was served a surprisingly complete meal and remarked she had never had such a good vegan phillo dough. She quickly became sick after dinner and suspects the meal was not actually vegan. 2) This campus is not well lit, so walking anywhere alone in the evening is unsettling . I took scheduled CSHL public tour of several labs and grounds. It was a nice introduction to scientific achievements and ongoing current research work. Grace Auditorium is an outstanding facility. The ERO led the effort to pass eugenical sterilization laws throughout America beginning in 1910, after it was established by Charles Davenport.
