I went here for a bachelors in criminal justice during Covid. Their program for that is a joke. Open book midterms but the questions were out of chronological order. Professors played favorites with class curriculum then hot button subjects. You would get foreign emails of 3rd party people trying to con you then lock out of your account. I got locked out of my classes then ability to contact professors through outlook. Whenever I tried to get anything fixed it was automated emails giving you the run around. They are impersonal it feels like there’s a huge communication barrier between the instructors and minority students. I felt overworked with the homework assignments writing the same ideas redundantly. They have you redo it if you don’t use the same nomenclature they like. Everything is graded by a TA. It’s the oldest 4 yr school in NY but it’s a joke. If you’re a half decent honor roll student it’s worth a try but it felt like a repeat of everything from...
Read moreAfter having looked at over a dozen schools, we happened to learn about SUNY Potsdam. We were blown away! The staff & students were incredibly helpful and friendly. Every question we had was answered. Best financial aid. Best infrastructure and amenities. Best food service, the profits of which go back into the scholarship fund (not a CEO's paycheck!). Likewise the bookstore - super-great and part of the school so the money stays in house. Want to travel? HUNDREDS of study abroad opportunities. Free laundry. Free CABLE. Campus work aplenty. Arts and culture everywhere. They even help you move your kid's stuff in for move-in day! We are just thrilled that my daughter will be attending there...

To be fair, the weather is a little brutal in the wintertime (I recall many times when I had to go to class in the morning in the dead of winter with an air temperature of -20), and the school is far removed from Albany and Syracuse, but the people and experiences make up for it. If you, your son or daughter, or your student are considering an inexpensive in-state (or out-of-state) college, I highly recommend this...
