Yes its a short hike but will get your legs burning! Nestled just off the Bataviakill at the the intersection on 23(Windham) and 23A(Prattsville) . Parking at site. As you ascend the first hundred or so feet you will notice a large tombstone to your right. Burried there are Pratts Horses and dogs. The trail continues up to a switchback.USE CAUTION ! Shale is unstable under foot in some spots. The switchbacks (2) bring you to the cliffs quick so be ready for the Cardio. As you get to the top you will see the carvings.. There are also two ways to the top of the cliffs. If you go Left you can , CAUTIOUSLY, follow the foot path around and then climb up about ten feet. If you go to the left there are parts where the cliff is a quick climb to the above foot path. Plenty of Hawks still reside in the cliffs and there are "secret caves" HOWEVER they are dangerous if not careful. Once you get to the top of the first cliffs there is a second set above as well. About 200 yards it turns into private land . Please take note of POSTED signs if venturing in the woods. Also in some spots on the first cliffs, there may be old barb wire sticking out of the ground or a tree. So be careful. Otherwise this is a fun and beautiful hike. Great warm up for the...

It sounded like I interrupted a fox hunt. We immediately turned back and thankfully did not have any issues. I've done my research and haven't found anything about the other part of this trail being on private land but if anyone else finds anything, please let me know.
Other than that....the summit is beautiful and the monuments are incredible. If you can follow a herd path, you'll be fine without...
Read moreAmazing place to go and see. The hiking is no joke, and definitely not easy. I would consider it moderate getting to the rocks, and advanced if you go up above them and continue on the trail to the caves. You can hike for a long way past the rocks.
The carvings though are amazing, and the signs at the start give you an amazing story about the life of the Pratt family and the man who had the carvings done, and built the town.
Worth seeing if you are in the area, and worth making a trip to if you are interested in seeing them. Just, be ready for a serious hike. For avid hikers, no problem. For people that don't hike, it's going to be a challenge, and a lot of...
