This is a tough one for me but I had to share thoughts since this was a tough situation for my family. Daughter went there for a little over a year. Less than one week after my daughter was moved up a level, the owner of the gym called left a voicemail saying not to come back to the gym. One level 2 parent in Apex was creating a toxic environment, telling lies to the ownership and other families about my daughter and wife. We felt that ownership and staff didn't even attempt to protect us or to hear our side of the story. At the end of season competition, My wife showed emotion at the gymnastics meet to her daughter only (it was the last competition of the season and emotions ran high-similar to any other sports final competition). Every parent handles things differently some super quiet and some more emotional.
Also, earlier in the season, the entire group of level 2 parents were discussing about apex and the training since we were getting out scored by every other organization. Parents talk at times about coaches, program (if one gym is doing better at competitions than their gym) that's the nature of the business. We pay for a service and have certain expectations. Our situation was handled very poorly by management. Therefore, due to these 2 things they kicked us out of the gym. My wife was the "fall" person for things that were normal text conservation among parents. I own a business, we understand that customers have the right to express their opinions, it's just the nature of what we do.
The owner also told my wife we can come back only if she doesn't stay (which is against safe sport-parents please look up this). I'm a fellow business owner and to be honest, I'm shocked at the way it was handled. In addition to this, before having a meeting with us to discuss any concerns, he went behind our back, asking other parents about us (which is entirely unprofessional). I'm not saying my wife was completely innocent (she could have handled things better and she was willing to take accountability), however, we had ZERO communication before being "kicked out", not even given a chance to discuss the situation.
After my wife agreed to the demands by the owner (not staying for gymnastics practice, not talking to parents etc) this toxic level 2 parent who had it in for my wife for the last 4-5 months, told lies to the other parents and to one of the coaches about my daughter. My daughter is a typical young girl that tries to make friends, her teaches and coaches adore her. The fact that ONE parent can get a group of parents/coaches/organization turn against my wife/daughter is absurd.
Therefore, after hearing more lies told by this disturbed level 2 parent, we decided we can't stay there at Apex. It wasn't worth the verbal abuse, judgment by other parents/organization (this isn't high school anymore lol). Oh and by the way, they kicked out another level 2 girl the week before lol.
On a positive note, Coach Erin gave a positive experience for my daughter and we appreciate that. Long Island parents, I know there are limited options for competitive gymnastics. People may go here and get a positive experience (I know of some people that have and continue enjoying their services). However, it's hard to give a positive review of this place since our situation was handled...
Read moreIf you’d like your child to be coached by experienced coaches who genuinely care about their job and children, then this gym is for you. We’ve tried out a few gyms and this is the only place where my daughter has not been coached by high school kids who look like they don’t even want to be there. The coaches are so knowledgeable and engaging and they create a fun and exciting environment. There isn’t a fancy viewing room like some places, but I’d gladly exchange that for quality coaches. My daughters skills have increased so much and she is happy and confident. I like that there are separate rooms for the younger and older gymnasts. I feel like this allows the younger kids to focus better and gives the coaches more options for activities. The staff has all been very informative and attentive and everyone is always cheering each other on in the gym. They have created such a positive environment and it’s so nice not hearing the team kids get screamed at every time we are there like they were at our last gym. I highly recommend Apex for any...
Read moreApex has been amazing on so many levels. We had moved my daughter over mid season from her old gym. She was in the middle of her second competition season and Apex welcomed her with open arms! It was the best decision we ever made. My daughter is thriving and loving every minute of gymnastics again! The coaches are top tier! It’s never an issue to get a private lesson. They actually teach the science and safety behind the skill so the children can better understand and execute that said skill. Anyone who is looking for a gym that treats you and your child like family and you want to be apart of an amazing competition team, Apex is where you belong! If i could give them 100...
