I’d rate 2 stars, but the selection is somewhat decent… sometimes. The new version of this nursery is lost on me. What is it supposed to be? Are you catering to landscapers or home gardeners? Not many of your larger trees are containerized, which means I either have to pay you for delivery or rent a truck. The majority of your flowering shrubs are all Monrovia for some weird reason. I’m not paying for the branding of Monrovia. Proven Winner, okay, they breed cultivars and hybrids but Monrovia is just a branded grower with a high price point - Why? Here’s an example of some confusion I faced while shopping on the second or third try at the nursery- I was shopping for a male Ilex Verticillata, “Southern Gentleman” to be exact- but I was kind and just said do you have any Winterberry? No one knew what the hell I was talking about- I continued to look around only to stumble upon a female Ilex Verticillata grouped together with berries for humans like blueberries, with no male pollinator. I feel bad for the customer who will be inevitably disappointed by the lack of bright beautiful red berries come winter. Also, there’s no one out in the yard watering, everything’s hooked up to drip line and over head sprays like the produce department in a supermarket. What a giant turn off. What a great way to spread foliar blights- and my goodness how LAAAZZZYYYY- I don’t want to take a shower whilst shopping for plants and put sopping wet plants in my car. And now you’ve removed the point of contact person outside by having drips. I don’t want to untangle a plant out of a drip system to haul it in only to be told not to bring it inside, but guess what? No one’s outside! I was a nursery laborer turned buyer/ manager- for over a decade. You want my resume, let me know, because you need a solid manager who’s not afraid to get their hands dirty and knows vendors AND PLANTS!! I wanted to love it , but I really truly miss the old owners. Nursery folk are a certain type of folk. You either are or ya...
Read moreFrom start to finish, I had a great experience at Whispering Pine Garden Center and found it to be a truly special place. The plants are all beautiful and there is a very large selection. I really enjoyed working with Kathy on picking out plants for my planters. She was so patient, kind and took her time to help a novice like myself create a beautiful arrangement. The time she spent with me was greatly appreciated and she was very thorough, answering all of my questions. Everyone else who worked at the nursery was also helpful and they even helped us load everything into the car. I purchased some beautiful high quality plants and I'm really excited to see how they grow in my planters. I would highly recommend Whispering Pine Garden Center to anyone looking for beautiful plants and trees and most of all, top notch...
Read moreThis is a very nice nursery that I have been driving by for ages and finally decided to stop in. They carry a wide range of indoor and outdoor plants. They have some of the best ornamental citrus plants that you can grow inside if you’re here in zone 6A/6B. They also had some very unique indoor plants that I know collectors would love. The staff are also really nice. The one thing I didnt like that is also a major safety concern is the way fertilizers and other chemicals such as pesticides and weedicides are stored indoors, in a room with almost no natural or mechanical ventilation. You can barely stand in there for a few seconds before the strong odor and vapors start to choke you. I would definitely rethink where the fertilizers are stored if...
