I had (2) ammunition orders shipped to Gun Works of CNY. Prior to the first ammunition order arriving at Gun Works of CNY, I called a week ahead of time to introduce myself and to notify them the order was being shipped to them. The gentlemen who answered the phone did not introduce himself, as I explained to him that I was having ammunition shipped to his establishment.. he responded as if he could care less and expressed no professionalism to a potential new customer.

My 2nd order was shipped to this FFL location by default as I didn't change the location (my mistake). When I arrived to pick up the ammunition order, the person working behind the counter (wearing a flat top hat) did not welcome me in or ask if he could help me. I introduced myself and let him know I had an order delivered to this establishment. I kindly asked if I could purchase ammunition or accessories if they could waive the FFL fee, and the response was "NO!". I can accept their stance, however the complete lack of kindness, customer relations, and communication beyond the reply was astoundingly uninviting.

No, I am sorry we can't do that, or we can work with you in regards to how much I would have to spend to offset the FFL fee. I would spent whatever the amount was to offset their loss, however the lack of professionalism, customer relations and motivation simply does not exist.

I will not be purchasing or utilizing them as a FFL transfer location for any future commerce. My recommendation to Gun Work of CNY, educate yourself on customer relations, a warm welcome to potential new customers is how you grow a business.

In response to the owners "bartering", comment. The dialogue did not begin with bartering. The dialogue began with the customer having to interrupt the owner as he was cutting open a package, instead of acknowledging that there was a customer standing right in front of him. Also, if I knew who I was speaking to it would make the transition more professional and business oriented.

The first time I dealt with them everything went flawlessly as I transferred a firearm purchased over the internet through them. The price was right and they had everything in perfect order for it. The second time I took an antique side-by-side shotgun in to be looked at and potentially restored. They appraised the gun and the quote was significantly higher than I had expected so I opted to pay for the quote and take the gun back as-is. They refused to give me a copy of the quote on the grounds that "it could be used to get work done elsewhere." Clearly they have some crooked business practices. Will never do business with them again regardless of how good their work is; I'm out 30 dollars on a gun and I can't even tell you what work would need to be done on it. Shady business practices should not be rewarded.

EDIT: Having seen the latest review I want to clarify my review. I brought the gun in for repair and wanted to get a quote as to how much it would cost; there was no intention of selling it. I had absolutely intended on getting the gun repaired after obtaining the quote but could not afford the price they quoted. I had decided to repurpose my 20 gauge shotgun because my wife has an interest in taking up hunting with me and I wanted to put a scope on it for her. Upon speaking with one of the folks here at the store on the telephone, they informed me that my featherlight shotgun is too lightweight for drilling and tapping, and they suggested that I find a saddle mount to fit it. Without much effort, I located a saddle mount ordered it and then took it and the gun and dropped them off. From the minute, I walked in the store like a valued customer and I know what folks think about someone bringing their own parts for repair, but they were so gracious about it. It took a little while to get the work completed and I was certainly OK with the timing, quality often takes a little longer. I picked the gun up today and I don’t think I could be more pleased with not only the workmanship, but with the way that I was treated and I left there feeling like I was truly valued as a customer .
