From a 5 to 1 star review; because of the way I was talked too. I will put the whole of the situation out there and you can decide yourself. TL;DR- it was rude.
I try my best to support local and have enjoyed past visits to Civano nursery on multiple occasions. I appreciate the hard work and expertise that they DO have for their nursery. I have a science background and told them of this, not be derogatory but, to let them know that I come with data, not speculation. I am not a draught tolerant tree expert, that's why I went to them in the first place. This is a matter of customer communication, not their ability to grow trees. In Dec, I bought a bay tree from them and had them install it in Jan. I ask the install guy during planting, how much I should water it, he said ~5 gallons a day for 2 weeks and then I could do less daily watering, but to add more water when it got hot. I followed this advice, the tree looked great, then we had a 95 F spike in Mar; I increased the watering to the plant that week. I called the nursery because the tree began to shriveled up. A man on the phone asked for photos, (sent to Civano's email on Mar 31st at 4:39pm, from my hotmail account, no reply yet), and we talked about the condition of the tree, he asked me to go to a daily water cycle. I told him that I had a 5 gal bucket with a drip line, and asked him if he thought that was sufficient to use on a daily basis; he said it should be, but to call/come in if the tree had not showed signs of recovery. Yesterday, I decided it was time to go in with new photos and find a solution. I went to the counter, they called their expert horticulturist over, as I started to explain the situation to him, he interrupted me almost immediately and told me it was not getting enough water, (fine, let's discuss it). I tried to explain that I was following their instructions and he cut me off again, saying that no one ever gave me those instructions. This did upset me to be cut off and discounted. Had the horticulturalist let me finish talking, instead of assuming that I was coming in "hot" and interrupting me, I would have asked him what can we do; I am a solution focused guy; I would have listened to him and asked him follow-up questions, as he is the expert. Instead, it was assumed that I was "fishing for them to replace the tree", and that I should, "Take some personal accountability" and that, "do you think its the tree's fault"? You sir, may know everything about every plant under that business title, you may even own the place for all I know. But, if you had recognized in this moment that though it was your 1000th time having this conversation with a customer, it was my 1st time having it with you, we could have amicably resolved this. Instead, because the expert was quick to interrupt, dismissive, and rude from the start, we invoked the proverbial "assume", right there in front of everyone. During the conversation, I was told that I cannot over water the plant, to drag the hose out there and soak it for 3 weeks until it comes back and then continue to heavily water it for summer time; that's fine, I would have done that from the beginning if I was told to do this; the tree was expensive, it is not like I enjoy spending money on a tree, to then let it die on purpose. We could have had a less demeaning conversation and used what had been already tried, as a starting point to correct from. Today, I cannot tell you if my tree needs 20 gal/day to establish and then 5-10 gal/day after that, or if it needs to be planted in a pool, because I was talked down too by the expert. I will water the tree much more, I hope it will come back as he said. I have even installed a new system yesterday to help with the increased need for watering, but do not know how to program it post tree establishment, because the expert knows trees, not people. The experience was demeaning, infuriating, and humiliating. I hope the tree comes back and I never have to speak with their horticulturalist again. My business will go to another...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was my first time coming to this nursery even though I have known about it for years and years it's just so far away from me. So I decided to take a drive out it was a nice day and I arrived and they haven't really pretty in the entrance and it looks like they have a lot of stuff. But when I walked in it seems like they mostly have cactus and succulents so if you're looking for that kind of stuff they do have a big selection. However I noticed they don't have a lot of annual flowers so if you're looking for like petunias or snapdragons all that pretty stuff that you plan on spring they don't really have a huge selection. They only have hanging baskets ready to go for very expensive. Also it is March and it is Rose Bush season I looked around and they have the tiniest selection of roses I think they only had like nine of them. And they didn't look so good so I passed on them. I did walk around and they do have a limited selection of fruit trees only the popular ones like lemons and oranges and limes and kumquats. The cool thing about this place is that they do deliver and they do plant the items for you however I didn't look to see if there was a minimum charge or anything like that but they do have that service which a lot of other places do not. They have a tiny little booth of seeds and they do carry the local frogs fertilizing products that I seen at some local nurseries around town. I ended up leaving with nothing because I didn't see anything I wanted I went to look for some annuals to plant right away like pansies and petunias but they had none of that so I ended up leaving. They have a play area for kids but that was closed right now. The restroom is a porta potty so keep that in mind. I walked around for about 20-25 minutes and not one person asked me if I needed help so that's why I only gave this place three stars because I didn't really see anything that I needed and it's very specific to what I said earlier about just being a lot of succulents and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBUYER BEWARE!!!!!!! As of May 20th we utilize this company to come and plant 2 Tacoma's. A little bit after the plants started dying we called Civano and had a conversation with in the 30 days. Civano advised us to put it on a slow drip and that I run for two hours which has been done every day and they are still dead. We were recommended to Civano from Brightview Landscaping Company who does a lot of business with them for the living community where the plants where planted by Civano. Today we called back spoke with the lady today told us that there was only a 30 day warranty on the plants didn't even take into consideration that we have already called with in the 30 days and talked to them, I asked if maybe there was somebody in the area from Civano that could come and take a look at them that wasn't even an option also brought up the fact that we were recommended to them by a big Landscaping Company who does business with them for this living community that didn't matter, i asked for the owner name and number she told me that she has the authority from the owner to enforce the 30 days told me that the owner would not talk to me would not even consider having a conversation with the owner. I was told they are not part of the Better Business Bureau because they are small family-owned company. I would not recommend this company to anybody and I would say buyer beware do not use this company. I wouldn't even give this...
