I was very disappointed with my visit at Mila’s. I came here looking to get a haircut, eyelash extensions, and an eyebrow tint.
Mila was very obviously busy and overwhelmed between picking up the phone every 10 minutes and answering inquiries. She was the only person working there that day, and I absolutely have a lot of respect for her for being able to hustle so well. That being said, I personally had a horrible experience. I wish I quietly left while I had to wait 20 minutes after my scheduled start time, or told her how much I hated my eyelashes and paid for her to remove them on the spot and then just left, or put my foot down when she mocked me and cut my hair before we had agreed on the service and drove straight to another salon, or wiped my crazy dramatic tinted brows before the set, but I didn't and think others should be forewarned.
I’d had 3 convos over the phone to get scheduled and at no point was I ever told that cash was required. Once I got there, I had to go back out to the bank and Mila seemed very exasperated and inconvenienced to me having to accommodate her. This info IS on the website, but a professional would have mentioned that over the phone. I came on time for my appt and still had to wait for an additional 20 minutes. That alone isn’t that bad, but I was told that my services would take 1.5-2 hrs when in fact I was there for 3 hours. The combo makes me feel as though my time was not respected.
For my lashes, I had asked for something natural on the phone and at the beginning of my appointment. This was my first time getting lashes and was not well-versed on everything eyelashes. That was my fault, but I had expected to be given some options to pick through. She asked me what I wanted, and I asked if I could see examples. She said to look online. Baffled, I started by saying, “I DO NOT want lashes like x lady that just left the salon, I want something much more natural”, referring to the lady that had just left the salon before me that Mila had worked on. I left with what looked like thick D-curl double-volume lashes. Each individual lash that was glued in actually had 2 lashes and many of my lashes had 4 glued in, stacked on each other. Not natural at all. My lashes felt heavy, I could see them at all times in my line of vision, and it stung for most of 2 days until I rubbed them off with oil to dissolve the glue.
I feel my haircut was not very professional either. I was mocked for my description of hair that I wanted and Mila began to cut my hair before I was even done telling her what I wanted her to do. I can’t help but think, what if I had changed my mind? I’d have to wait several months, just to get back what she hurriedly began to snip off. I’ve had this cut for a month now and I’m still not sure if I ever liked it. My bangs feel very uneven and look very awkward no matter how I style it as a result. I’ve taken to just pinning them back and gritting my teeth while I wait for them to grow in more so I can attempt to do what I wanted again. I also wasn’t given a chance to do feedback because I was rushed, hair still wet, and fringe unstyled, to the next section, which was the eyebrow tint.
With that, I was rushed into a salon chair and Mila began painting them on in a shape that was completely unnatural to my eyebrows without plotting out any points or even asking me what I want to do with my brows. She painted on a thick rounded, almost S-shaped, high-arch when my brow shape is a medium soft-angled low-arch. There was a thick knob at the beginning of my brows there definitely not part of my original shape. To keep my hair out of my face, she crimped my bangs, still wet, out of my face. I left the salon with crinkly bangs that I never even got to see the style on, knobby dramatic eyebrows, and painful heavy thick eyelashes. I’m sure some women can rock this look but I definitely cannot and felt so ugly and out of my skin that I cried the whole way home. Unfortunately, I don’t think...
Read moreMy best friend, Jyn called me from Mesa, AZ with a hair disaster. She colored her hair at home and it looked a greenish/grey color when she was done. She was supposed to be a blonde. Her mom offered to pay to have it corrected, problem was mom just moved to Tucson and had no idea where to go for a color correction. So being the computer geek that I am, I jumped online and began searching salons in Tucson, AZ (I live in South Carolina). I read all the reviews and narrowed it down to two salons, Mila's was one of them. I called and spoke to Rebecca and explained the situation. We were quoted $60 an hour, (which is reasonable). I know this because I called around and asked. She set Jyn up for a noon appointment.
When they arrived they were greeted by Mila and were offered beverages. They said they felt very welcomed and comfortable. Mom relaxed and chatted with Mila between her appointments. Mom noticed that Mila did several kid cuts and the kids and the parents were very happy. Mom notices everything and she observed that everyone was very happy with their services and the stylists.
Rebecca explained to Jyn that she would need to cut her hair because it was over processed, dry and damaged. She asked Jyn how short she was willing to go. She listened to Jyn and did exactly what Jyn asked. Rebecca waited on another client with a color issue while she was taking care of Jyn, never once neglecting either client. After almost five hours Jyn had the perfect hair color and cut and was not charged for five full hours. Rebecca charged her for the actual time she worked on her hair not time she sat waiting for it to process and she did not charge her for the cut and style. With tip Jyn paid around $200, which is very good! Most color corrections start at $100 an hour and take a minimum of two hours.
Jyn and mom are extremely happy. I saw the pictures and the color and cut is absolutely gorgeous!!! They said they will be returning and Jyn has already been quoted touch up and highlight prices which is less than what she has been paying in Mesa.
I hope this helps someone make the...
Read moreI moved to Tucson 15 months ago and have had a difficult time finding someone to cut and style my hair. The last time I got my hair cut was at the Tucson Mall in December. I was not satisfied with the cut nor the style. Just when I thought I'd never find the right Cosmetologist, I ran across Mila's Salon on Craigslist - which then supplied the link to the Salon's personal website. Today I had an appointment at the new location on River & Craycroft with Kayla and feel so blessed to have found her and will NEVER have to look for another hairdresser again. When I arrived, I explained to Kayla that I just needed a change. My hair had been long my entire life and I felt like my hair looked drabby. Kayla took the time to find out what I thought I'd like to have done and listened intently to my thoughts, feelings and fears. I explained that in the past hairdressers didn't pay attention to how I syled my hair, therefore I always had to run straight home and re-do my hair. Kayla spoke about the texture of my hair and the different options that we could do. After her consultation she asked if she could take my picture before we got started - which I agreed. She trimmed about 6 inches off of the length, dyed my hair and added highlights. After styling my hair she took my picture again. I could not believe how terrible my hair looked before my "makeover"! The ends were thin, dry and looked terrible. The before and after pictures of my hair was such a difference - and to think that my long hair was so beautiful. The only regret that I have is that I didn't meet Kayla sooner! Kayla was so polite and treated me with such professionalism and respect the whole time I was there. She was warm and inviting. While doing my hair the phone ran several times. Each time she stopped to answer the phone she was courteous, professional and never appeared rushed or busy to the caller. Kayla is definately an asset to Mila's Salon and I will refer everyone that I know to go to Kayla. This was the most pleasant and enjoyable visit that I have ever had at a beauty salon! ...
