I want to preface this review by saying I really do believe this is the best Japanese cuisine in town by a long shot. The food is spectacular, the owners are truly amazing people, that care about their staff, quality and customers, and the atmosphere is wonderful.
I worked at SushiZona for just shy of 4 years and I can say with absolute confidence that it was an amazing experience. Though all jobs have their pros and cons I can say that I felt my time and efforts were appreciated and that they were not only met, but exceeded, by my bosses as well. There's a sense of respect and care with everything that is done at this establishment towards everything and the end product really shows it.
I made it my goal to try as much as possible of Japanese food around town and see what it had to show me but, without a sense of necessity, I found myself back to SushiZona often for my favorite dishes and sushi. The quality is unwavering as Taichi and Michiko make sure that everything is up to their standards. If it's not, it is removed from the menu or "sold out" until the quality can return. This, as well as a working environment that values quality and control means that there are very few and far inbetween times which quality can take a dip.
As I said, everyone there works hard and the bosses respect that work which lends to harder working staff. The bosses clean everything, work long hours and make sure that the shop is ready for a solid experience for customers. The restaurant looks nice, clean and legitimate.
Through all my years at SushiZona I was blessed and I would certainly recommend it to anyone at anytime. If you're thinking about it, please...
Read moreI never leave reviews, especially bad ones because I believe that we should communicate bad experiences with staff and management before we blast them on the internet. That said, I’m still compelled to say the following:
We came in hungry and tired with our infant after a busy day and were promptly informed that the restaurant was out of sushi rice. We were told there was plenty of tempura and sashimi and if we chose to come back again we would get 10% off of our next dining experience. We decided to stay and had appetizers because we understood.
The tempura tasted just like fried vegetables and shrimp like we expected. When we were brought our bill we asked if we would get the 10% off coupon or IOU or whatever. We were told “oh, no, that was only if you chose to leave and come back”. I questioned this further and our server debated with me about it. He finally said he would “ask” and several minutes later came back with an offer to take our name down for our next meal to get a 10% discount.
The food was mediocre at best and we settled for what we didn’t want thinking it would be made right the next time. And as a side note, there was a party behind us who seemed to be getting sushi with rice (I could be wrong but I thought I heard a yellowtail roll being ordered) and one of the chefs was talking to them personally. We felt out of place and dismissed and I don’t think for a second our feelings were unwarranted.
We...
Read moreI was actually looking forward to having it, after reading the reviews. I ordered 5 rolls to go, edomame with garlic and salt and seaweed salad. When I picked up, I kind of thought that it was on the light side, but thought they maybe pack good. When I got home, and opened, I was extremely disappointed. Each roll was like 5 thin pieces. For $90.00, those 5 rolls were a joke. There was 3 of us, we basically all were still hungry. Edomame did not taste like it had salt or garlic. It looked like they put something in there, but it wasnt salt or garlic. I had to sautee some garlic and ad soy sauce and garlic to the edomame to taste what i asked for. Sushi did not have a good taste at all. We eat sushi on regular basis and anywhere we travel, we always fibd a place. After moving to tucson, and looking for a sushi place, we were unfortunate enough with this place. One roll, i wish i rememvered the name just looked and tasted like smashed something unknown wrapped in seeweed wrap with melted cheese on top. What the hell?!?! Major disappointment. Whoever puts good reviews to this place must have never had good sushi. I still cant believe how much it cost for embarrassing amount of small rolls. The only thing that i ate without disgust was seeweed salad. Seeweed salad was ok. People seemed nice, but food was not worthy to be called sushi. Never going...
