Very disappointing. This course in not what it used to be at all. Three years ago, it was in the best shape I had ever seen it in since I began golfing there regularly in 2011-2012. Since the new management took over about two years ago, the course conditions have not been the same. The greens are hard and cut too short. I was there last weekend and they were more brown than green. This is the second year in a row the fall overseeding has been subpar. Very thin overall. Where there is grass on the fairways it's very thin, and generally cut too short. The tee boxes are in terrible shape.
I brought up my complaints last spring to the staff and ultimately to the general manager, Brent Lingel. The staff member (golf professional) I initially brought my complaints to was extremely dismissive, to the point of being condescending. That ultimately led to my conversation with Brent. Brent gave me a free round that day, but generally was also very dismissive of my feedback. Very little has changed since. I'd give this course 3 stars at best, but for this review I'm only giving it 2 stars due to the lack of any enforcement of county health orders (see below). For the same green fee, the conditions are better at another course in the area that I will now be going to now instead. It's a shame, because this used to be a gem of a course.
Also, there is NO enforcement of Covid mitigation practices in and around the clubhouse and pro shop. Last Sunday when I was there, I watched a patron without a face covering walk right into the pro shop and wasn't challenged. Later, between the front and back nine in the restroom, I asked another patron there without a face covering where his mask was? He replied it was in his car and walked off. That's the environment this management is allowing to exist in the midst of a very serious pandemic. Rolling Hills GC is NOT a safe environment right now. Go there at your own risk, and if you do try to enjoy greens that are like...
Read moreHappy with the course and game we were able to play. Very unhappy with the attitude and scolding we received from the cart attendant following our round. We played the sundown rate, which notes being able to golf until dark per the website and pro shop before we teed off. When we finished at 7:20, and it certainly was not dark. The cart attendant proceeded to shout across the driving range that he would like to go home. Confused, we drove closer to hear what the problem was. He continued to yell at us for staying too late, and we should have been gone already. Embarrassed that we unknowingly kept someone at work longer than necessary, he told us we should have been gone no later than 7pm. The website should reflect this, and the pro shop should make golfers aware of this cutoff. This would have been much easier and would have prevented your employee from having to scold golfers. I also think scolding should have been a last resort from the employee, being professional and kind goes a long way in a customer...
Read moreRolling Hills GC is special for so many reasons.
Of course, the golf is fantastic, but anytime you play golf, you must first book a tee time and interact with the staff.
The staff is incredible! I can't say enough about Jeremy, Dave, Jenny, Macie, Annalise and everyone else who makes a trip to RHGC a wonderful experience.
Now we address the golf... The course may be shorter than the average course in town, but that certainly doesn't mean it's easy.
The course has numerous challenges, including the rewarding and punishing greens. All of which make for a challenging, exceptionally enjoyable round of golf.
Great round...
