Nice urban park! I go for the hiking but there are also mnt biking trails. It’s pretty neat that there is a park like this right in Tulsa. The first time I went, luckily I was with a friend as we encountered a severely cracked out woman wandering around on the trail. She was so drugged out of her mind it was kind of scary. Especially with the news of the rapes and murders that have been happening in the park over the summer. If you are hiking alone is definitely have something with me- pepper spray or a knife or an electric hiking stick (the kind you can shock someone with.) Oh we saw a coyote run through on our hike as well- that was neat! Otherwise it’s mostly squirrels. There are some mushrooms to forage if that’s your thing. There are multiple paths and ways to go, so you can go several times and experience it in a new way. One way has a great big stone stairway that eventually leads you to an overlook of the city. There are restrooms that are clean and a nice big parking lot that’s oddly pretty. I’d say go, just remember safety- this is in...
Read moreThis is a super fun way to get your steps in, for the day. Bring a water bottle, you will need it. Hydration is key to any outdoor activity. Wear a quality trail running shoe or hiking boot. The trails can be challenging if you are not wearing the right footwear.
I have found that parking at the top of the mountain and entering the trail system that way, is more challenging for me. I like to take the yellow trail as far as it goes north, but not past the meadow, then double back on the yellow trail to the main parking lot, and climb the trail parallel to Elwood to the top parking lot.
If you take any of the meadow paths. The grasses can be very tall and the weeds grow wild. Locusts love these open areas, so if you are not a bug person, be warned. The path can be almost hard to see at some points. I do not recommend taking these paths on a sunny day without a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle.
This place really is a great way to get out and enjoy nature. I feel like you can make the trails as challenging...
Read moreI have been hiking here regularly for a few years now. I love it. There are many easy, well marked paths for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Some trails are less traveled, sketchier and not as well marked. I prefer those as when I hike I try to avoid mad crowds of screaming children and slow moving elderly folks. I hike for some peace and primarily for fitness. If you go now, be prepared to get muddy and be very careful moving fast. There is mud, water and rocks on the trails I utilize. If you hike with a four legged buddy, be sure you either don't mind the muddy wet mess in the back of your car or truck or bring something to cover the back or to dry them with. My buddy gets wet and muddy every time we have...
