I love this market. There are two outside markets/sides, plus an indoor meat, cheese and honey store and a dairy and meat shed. The produce is usually very good and gets better as the summer goes on, as more and more of the items come from local producers. Early on some items are from produce distributors. Prices for produce are below local supermarkets, but meats and cheeses are quite a bit costlier. However, these items are of a very good, almost heirloom quality: chickens are smaller, but they are not enhanced or "fattened up" by chemical additives or other manipulation. Beef is all (or mostly) grass fed, etc.
Each side seems to be two different groups or families, as you can pay for the dairy and parking lot-facing items from any of the three registers they have. And the road-facing side seems separate (these guys also have a room in their side of the building with spices, grains, flours and other dry goods.
All in all it's a small footprint for a market, but there is a lot on offer here. Oh, there's also a furniture shed with some handmade pieces. And some prepared foods: chicken BBQed on site, soup lakes from a large cauldron and some other things.
There are some wonderful things here that are unusual like homemade root beer. Though I've described the market as they are in Saturday there is a market on Fridays, though they offer somewhat less on Fridays. And the Friday market doesn't happen for as long as Saturday. Saturday market goes from some time after Easter until a week or two...
Read moreThe Poconos Farmers Market is a gem tucked into the heart of the mountains—a perfect stop whether you’re a local or just visiting for the weekend. The market offers a nice blend of fresh produce, homemade goods, and specialty items that give you a real taste of Pennsylvania charm.
The produce is fresh and well-priced, and many vendors sell local honey, cheeses, jams, and baked goods that are hard to find elsewhere. The Amish baked goods, in particular, are absolutely worth the trip—try the shoofly pie or the fresh soft pretzels if you get the chance.
It’s not just food either—there are also small stands with handmade crafts, candles, and even some vintage finds depending on the season. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, with friendly vendors happy to chat or help you find what you need.
The only downside is that it can get a bit crowded on weekends, especially in peak tourist season, and parking can be tight. Still, it’s a small price to pay for access to such a unique and homey market.
Overall, if you’re in the Poconos and want a taste of local culture (and literally, good food), the farmers market is definitely...
