Unfortunately, the rating for this restaurant suffers from a very common trope in Google reviews - that is people not caring to give an actual constructive review and giving 5 stars just because the decor was cute and they didn't throw up their food. In all honesty, if I had not seen other reviews, I would have thought this place had no higher than 3 stars. Alas, the inflated rating from irresponsible reviewers will keep this restaurant with a high rating for years to come. Here's what you get in this place : cool decor, sure you could look around the walls and be at least mildly interested in everything around. Food: just "fine". Not great by ANY stretch of the imagination. I got the rib eye with red beans and loaded baked potato. The steak was fine. The beans were straight out of a cheap can, and the loaded potato was only loaded with 3 toppings.
Where this review loses most stars is service. For some strange reason you WILL wait to get seated. When I visited, my waitress was TERRIBLE. She checked on us a total of 2 times, and one of them was to tap on the table as she was walking away towards another table, to quickly tell us our food was coming. The food took a total of 47 minutes to arrive at our table. The place was about 33% empty and there were at least 3 other waiters I could spot - why 47 minutes?! Who the heck knows! And to top it off, when I was going to comment to our waitress about the food taking so long, she walked away before I could finish my sentence. Along with the terrible service, the food was ASTRONOMICALLY expensive: $26 for a 10oz Rib eye. That's Dallas prices.... and Vernon....Dallas it is not. It is evident that this place takes advantage of the fact that this "almost dead" town does not have many other choices. So it touts itself as "the place to go when visiting Vernon". Unfortunately, this will bring in all the passer-bys. Not me, though. I learned my lesson. Will not be coming back here, and unless you really don't care about service, waiting, and high prices, I would not...
Read moreThis place is probably only getting business from travelers. I ordered ahead to pick up a to-go order of ribeye salad, bites and Santa rosa burger. First, there is only one guy at the front checking out customers for dine-in and to-go 🤦♀️ Secondly, the steaks we ordered are supposedly Medium cooked. But the meat was so so dry. Not even medium well, it was like well done that was reheated in the microwave well done. Both my salad and steak bites were so dried it was hard for my dog to chew. Thirdly, the burger didn't come with any kind of condiments. No Ketchup or Mayo or anything on the side. No utensils or napkins (I had to ask the front desk of our hotel, so we can eat). Lastly, I think they probably only cooked one portion of sweet potato fries and shared on two orders of ours. Because the steak bites only had 10 sweet potato fries.
Definitely not worth 50 dollar worth food. I could have just gone to sonic and got us...
Read moreSecond restaurant I’ve eaten at in Vernon, Texas since I moved here. They cooked me up an amazing steak and I am in love with their onion twisters! The atmosphere is incredible, you get this feeling when you are in there and you can feel the history. A lot has happened in those walls and I don’t need anyone to tell me that!! Perfect place for a date night after messing with livestock all day. Casual but elegant, they really did strike a perfect balance where I didn’t feel like I needed to dress up, but I wouldn’t have felt out of place if I did. They do take credit cards, but I recommend you pay with cash or card to avoid surcharges (cash and checks are king in Vernon). Service was eager to please, although I was a touch frustrated by the almost obsessive check ins. I also was given double desserts when we wanted to split one, although I wasn’t necessarily...
