Red Wing Lake Golf Course is a true gem for golf enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The beauty of this course is unparalleled, with lush landscapes and abundant wildlife that make every round a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The array of wildlife, from the numerous bald eagles to the nutria found in the various water bodies, adds a unique touch to the golfing experience. One of the standout features for me is the heronry located to the left and behind the 11th tee box and left of the 15th fairway. This spot offers a delightful glimpse into the lives of these majestic birds, making it my favorite feature of the course.
Given the natural beauty and wildlife, I’m surprised that Red Wing Lake doesn’t offer walkingfor birders, perhaps with a few strategically placed gazebos for bird-watching. This could be an excellent addition to the course's offerings and would surely attract even more nature enthusiasts.
I’ve heard some golfers downplaying Red Wing due to the purportedly easier putting greens, with comments like "just putt them straight at Red Wing." I consider this my home course and choose it often when my friends let me pick the spot in town. Who doesn't like making more putts?
One of the major positives of Red Wing Lake is the absence of houses along the course. This adds to the tranquility and natural feel of the environment. The course's location is also a treat, being so close to the coast that you can feel the salt in the air, especially when teeing off on the par-three 13th. Here, you always need an extra half club due to the wind stifling your shot over the tree line, adding a unique challenge to the game.
Hole 4 used to be my bane, but it has now become one of my favorites. The course offers a fantastic opportunity for those who love to hit the driver. For those who prefer to work on their short game, the shorter tees provide a great chance to go low. The 3rd hole has made remarkable progress from its past flooding issues, thanks to the diligent work of the grounds crew.
And who could forget holes 9 and 18? Both are long par fives that lead back to the clubhouse, with water hazards protecting both greens, providing a thrilling end to each nine.
Thank you, Red Wing Lake Golf Course, for offering such a well-maintained, beautiful, and challenging course without the intrusion of residential development. This place feels like a...
Read moreCame here this morning for nine holes. We got stuck behind an accident on the way and called ahead to let them know we were running a few minutes behind in case we needed to reschedule our tee time and my wife was told it was no issue. Greeted by very friendly staff when we checked in and got our cart but while waiting to tee off on the first hole, the starter came over to make sure we were who we said we were. My wife and I were very friendly with him while waiting to tee off but he was incredibly rude stating that his day was ruined because “people can’t show up on time” and reiterated it a second time before we teed off while he sat there smoking his cigarette and scowling at us. I’m sorry there was an accident that we had zero control over but we called in advance to attempt to mitigate it or at the very least notify them. I’m not a pro, I golf in the 90’s and my wife just started learning, but I understand the importance of a tee time and that’s why we called to make sure it wouldn’t interfere and it sets a negative tone for someone wanting to come out and have a little fun while learning when an employee wants to be rude before we even get started. Not sure why some retiree working on a golf course needs to take such offense to it when no one else there did. Other than that, it was a beautiful day and the greens were in good shape. Will definitely return, but staff could use some attitude adjustment first thing in...
Read moreThe course itself was in great shape, and played nice, that's the only reason it gets to Stars. My issue is with the individual working the Pro Shop. He was extremely disrespectful and insulting. I am an avid golfer, I try to golf at least once or twice a week. I brought 2 novice golfers, one of which it was only his second time golfing, to Red Wing to play 9 holes on a Monday afternoon. The individual in the Pro Shop was not very conducive to us playing more than 9, whether we wanted to or not. Being that the two guys I was playing with were new, our pace was a little slow. We were halfway down the Fairway of eight, when I saw the Pro Shop attendant coming towards us in a golf cart, he then started asking us " what have we've been doing, we've already been out here for 2 hours?" When I dropped the cart off, he made the same comment again, insinuating that we had played extra holes. I find it extremely insulting that he would accuse me of stealing extra holes to play, when really, I'm trying to get two new golfers into the sport. I will no longer support Red Wing Golf Course, or will I recommend it to any of my many friends who play. There are too many courses that I would rather play, then to waste my money just to be...
