Wow - 10/1/2020 ... Go to 1 star reviews and read Christine Care. Never saw this, but apparently this woman was there 2 years ago and saw this encounter with this crazy lady. Also read Bob S. Sounds like a similar experience. I bring it up because I hadn't read this since and heard the woman at Vorhees Animal Orphanage had another run in with police recently. Haha. Nutjob.
Just got back from Woofstock. The following takes place...
My family walks in. It's five of us. We walk two rows and it's all vendors. Marijuana oils, Carmax, car insurance, solar panels, hot sauce ... that's all right near each other. This was advertised as "tons of dogs and puppies for adoption". Instead, it's a sales show.
We already knew DBU. They had puppies there. Only place we saw that did.
Immediately went back to the front to leave. Was told a refund wasn't happening. I asked for a manager. A woman approached me.
I told her I wanted my money back because there were no puppies there other than DBU and told her flat out there were only vendors. She said, "Oh yeah, if you walked the first row you would have seen all the puppies and the kittens".
I told her there weren't any. She insisted there were, so I said OK, show me those.
At that point, she turned to my wife and kids and said, "You should be embarrassed." Where are we going here? She then began to yell, "YOU ARE BELLIGERENT!!!" She threatened to call the police. I don't bother mentioning this, but my family are NJSP and PSP. I work in television, as does my wife. You are acting insane, while I stand here in awe, so enjoy your craziness.
This woman then says, "no I'm not showing you the puppies (because there definitely were not any) I'm taking you to the sheriff". She walks to the Camden Sheriff and acts like she has been. He doesn't even talk to her. One of his deputies does. He asks her to go stand elsewhere. We talk calmly (because ... everyone but her was calm) and as she yells "I'll give you your money back out of my f'ing purse" I explain to him that I have no idea why she's this nuts.
I won't speak for the police, but they - are about as concerned with her as I am - and I'm out of there.
Major false advertising. It's a disservice done to legitimate agencies trying to adopt animals to have someone like this woman running an event like this. I would never return and will let the contacts I have know to stay away from anyone that isn't directly dealing with DBU from now on.
EDIT for their reply:
Notice their reply, because it's telling...
All of their volunteers agreed with their volunteers' story? Interesting. There were two volunteers there. A dude with sunglasses and the crazy woman. The crazy woman who then couldn't show me dogs and then said she'd get the sheriff on me (so, you're going to take me to family essentially), called the entire staff and yelled at the police while they asked me why she was ... well ... like she was. In other words, what story did they corroborate, that she did indeed act like she needed some meds?
I indicated at any time "I wanted to take a puppy home that day". This woman has now gone from "we have a ton of puppies" to "where did you look" to "if you walked down that first row you'd have seen over a dozen dogs and tons of kitties" to "c'mon I'll show you" to "you're going to the police" to "one cannot simply expect to adopt that day". I mean, half of that is right there in writing. They literally can't keep it straight. No one expected to adopt that day. I was already approved at three shelters that were there. Again, this woman is insane.
The reviews on this place are already terrible. Not surprised. Enjoy mediocrity. All you did was just cancel out all 22 places for myself and anyone at any TV, newspaper or radio station I've ever...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used to LOVE this place. My family adopted our dog there 11 years ago and he is amazing. I fostered for them last year and helped get a really sick dog back to health and to her forever home and had a great experience. However, now it is my turn to adopt and I am disgusted. I have depression and anxiety and wanted to get myself an emotional support dog (I had one in the past and she was amazing.) So my roommate and I went on a hunt to every shelter in the area to find a dog. In late April, we found a dog named Teasel that I fell in love with. He already had a dog meet scheduled, but I put in an application anyway to be safe. The day of the dog meet came and went and we heard nothing until we saw him posted as still available on Facebook. Then the next day I got an email saying he was adopted. I was heartbroken so my mother called the shelter. Apparently they couldnāt get ahold of my apartment complex so they moved on. Real nice. I completely wrote them off after that, but we decided to give them another chance. Went on Saturday and fell in love with a pup named Rico. He was apparently very popular but we asked to be considered for him anyway. We knew it was a long shot but it was worth it. Oh, I should also mention that once one of the staff recognized me from fostering, she was so apologetic about teasel saying if she knew it was me, she wouldnāt have denied me (if his new family reads this, Iām glad you got an amazing dog.) So, Sunday goes by and I wait cause I figured Iād give them time to call my apartment. I call yesterday (monday) and Iām told theyāre still reviewing applications and to call the next day. I try asking if they could get ahold of my apartment and Iām brushed off. So I call today around noon and Iām told āweāre finalizing applications today. We should know something later.ā She takes my name and number and says Iāll get a call either way. I wait all day with my anxiety through the roof. I finally give in and call around 4:30 pm just to be told Rico was adopted earlier today and that everyone who applied was notified, but I was not. The girl couldnāt even find my application. And to top it off, THEY CHOSE HIS NEW HOME YESTERDAY. Iām sick and tired of being lied to and having my emotions played with. My roommate and I are so sick and heartbroken that we will not be searching for a dog any time soon. We cannot handle it anymore. If youāre a family, go here because youāll definitely be approved. Roommates beware. You will not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI genuinely wish I could rate this facility higher but there are few inconveniences that I'm struggling with while trying to meet/adopt a dog from here. First, the place us under construction which is awesome for both the animals and the staff that eventually they will have new and improved kennels and office space (I assume) but the parking is tight, it's not clearly marked anywhere of where to go first, and it's not so easy to differentiate between shelter staff and the construction staff at this time. I realize the place is run on volunteers but it is difficult to get through by phone, and they want you to meet the handler of the animal of your choice who makes their own very part time hours like 12-3PM - not a very big window if you work M-F and they don't on a weekend! Sadly the dog I want and is pictured here has been in this facility for quite some time now. I can provide him with the best forever home he could ever dream of but the facilities lack of hours and policy is probably going to force my hand to look else where. And while I respect the amount of devotion, medical services, neuturing/spaying, and other services they provide for these poor wayward creatures is extremely expensive, their adoption fees are much higher than other local shelters and another deterrent for me. $350 for a puppy with no true behavioral history or complete medical/gene pool records is a little steep. Even the cost for senior animals ovet 7yrs is a lot considering the demographics for placing older animals is not an easy one to fill. I know they are probably only charging the very minimum to help recover their expenses but in my opinion this might also prevent a faster turn around in getting the animals into good homes. The staff at this facility are phenomenal. It is very apparent how much they care about the animals and again are providing their services out of the kindness of their hearts, for that alone they should be applauded. Maybe I found this facility at a chaotic time and by no means want to discourage anyone from visiting the place for themselves but I'm only being honest that even with an appt. and 2 visits later, I'm no closer to meeting Nimbus any time soon due to the lack of availability...
