We did the 10 AM tour with hotel pick-up and drop-off, which I booked about five months in advance. About five minutes before pick-up, I got a call and text from the company saying the shuttle was overbooked and they’d be sending an Uber instead, at their cost. They handled it quickly, but it did make me a little uncomfortable not having the usual safety and tracking features you get when booking a rideshare yourself. With that much notice, I was a bit disappointed they hadn’t better planned for hotel pick-ups. Once we arrived (with about five minutes to spare), everything turned around. Our guide, Steven, was fantastic — you could tell he grew up in the area and genuinely cared about the wildlife and the swamp. He shared so many interesting facts about the habitat, trees, and animals that I never knew before. We did the 6-person airboat and it was awesome! Some people might find the wind a little cool, but I thought it was refreshing — sun on your face, wind in your hair, and gorgeous views all around. We saw alligators and raccoons, and the old trees in the area were incredible. I had read that you might get wet or muddy, but we didn’t have any issues. I’d still recommend closed-toe shoes, just in case. We brought rain jackets and water-resistant clothes, but it wasn’t really needed since it didn’t rain. Fantastic experience!! Start to finish 5 stars!! Highlight of our (first ever) New Orleans trip! So glad we found it and booked it and went. Did the round trip hotel transportation; Driver (Brett) was on time, very friendly, explained the drive, and played great music. Took about 30-40 minutes to get to the launch area. Once there, check in was quick and easy, staff was nice; simple waiver to sign and bathrooms, a little gift shop, etc. Waited about 15 minutes for our ride to start, exactly on time. Our party of 4 reserved a boat for 9-10, and we had a total of 8 on board. I don’t think the size matters but don’t really know. Our captain was Cory—he was wonderful! Knowledgeable, friendly, confident, and fun. Really made the experience enjoyable and stress-free. The tour itself was amazing. You see several alligators, most with names who are “known” by the staff. It’s not scary at all and they can’t jump into the boat and seem docile/almost friendly! You’ll go slow and fast and in between. You’ll see beautiful narrow canals and open ponds. It is not scary in any way. A lot of wildlife which Cory knows all about. It is loud and I suggest you wear the provided headphones. We had perfect weather, but you don’t get wet or muddy and can bring a small backpack/purse/Fanny pack if you want. Although we technically didn’t get to attend our tour I want to review our experience with this company. Our family booked a tour of 8 people for our day trip to New Orleans. We booked the tour with the expectation that by the time our flight landed and we grabbed the rental car we would arrive for our tour in plenty of time. Well as it turns out our flight out of NC took a 2 1/2 hour maintenance delay which means we would arrive when the tour was almost done. I emailed and called Ragin Cajun to explain the situation, even though I was aware of the 24 hour cancellation /refund policy. The employee I spoke with was so completely understanding and empathetic, said she knew this was out of our control and would contact the boss to inquire what they could do. By the time we actually landed, very late, they had already emailed and issued a refund. The customer service and complete compassion they showed was so admirable. They truly showed they cared about their customers. We will most definitely be back, will most definitely book a tour with them and will most definitely allow for a longer trip and plan for unexpected delays in the future when booking the tour time.
