Course is fine but the overall experience is not. The nickel and dime practices have gone too far and ruined what would be an otherwise good golf experience. They're now charging $82 per person to play during the week and well over $105 on the weekend. They also charge $9 for a small bucket of warm up range balls and $16 for a large and you can only hit off of mats unless it's the weekend. On top of that, they are now charging their customers a transaction fee if you pay with a credit card on any purchase made. Not just the small items like snacks but anything you buy in the shop or paying for your round. I haven't had a business charge a credit card fee outside of a gas station. We purchased two bottled sodas, a pack of crackers and a pack of peanuts and the cost was $14...plus the service fee for using a card. I know everything is more expensive but a bottled soda and a pack of peanuts shouldn't cost $7 anywhere.
We played on a random Tuesday and the round took 4 hours and 40 minutes to complete. I can't imaging how long it takes on the weekend. After 14 holes, we asked the one marshal we saw why the pace of play was so slow. He didn't even know what day of the week it was, let alone why there was such a backup. No effort at all to get groups to speed up to proper pace and really not sure why he was even out there to begin with. He must have been close to 80 years old.
Finally, the greens are usually amazing, as other reviews will attest, but they had covered every green completely in sand and failed to mention it to anyone at anytime during the check in process. The greens were not aerated, just covered in sand and no discount or previous notice was provided. They still rolled pretty well but reading them was impossible due to the layer of sand removing any visual clues to how a putt would break.
Please Heritage, you can be better than this. You have a good course but I hate everything else about the way you're doing business. You make plenty of money, don't nickel and dime...
Read moreI went to visit my mother for Easter Sunday and decided to take advantage of the good weather and searched for a golf course to play. I decided on Heritage. When I arrived I was very impressed with the the staff and golf community. I'm a veteran of the USMC and asked the staff if they provided discounts to vet's. At the time he said no but and I emphasize but because the staff went out of there way to make me feel welcome. They didn't take money of my round but did provide me with free range balls and GREAT hospitality. They paired me up with two young guns Jack and Jason who were Jr. golf members at Heritage. Played a fun round of 18 holes with those two gentlemen who helped me navigate the course. After leaving and until I return home to Maryland I realized I left my Callaway XHot 8 iron on the course. I called to inquire if some found and return my club and they said yes. Of course I was elated and asked the staff member what I needed to do to get it shipped to me. He placed me on hold and came back stating don't worry about a thing we would be honored in returning your clubs to you free of charge. Again, I was thrown back from the courtesy he and the rest of the staff displayed. You see we are--well I thought we were living in a time where that type of courtesy was lost and long forgotten.
I will be returning to Heritage Golf when I return to see my mother in Wake Forest. I HIGHLY recommend this course it's challenging, well maintained and the staff are exceptional.
Thanks Heritage for a wonderful round of golf and for...
Read moreHeritage is one of my favorite golf courses in the Raleigh, NC area. Even if you are not the best out of the tee box you can still enjoy Heritage. There are just a few holes in which you will need a perfect drive. There are a few very long par 5 holes, especially on the back 9. Do not try to go for the green in two or you will put yourself in a very bad position.
The driving range and chipping area is nothing compared to Hasentree but it is still not bad. Unlike Hasentree, Heritage can get very busy during the week. Call ahead to see who is going out before making the trip up to Wake Forest. Also remember to bring a few extra balls as water comes into play on...
