I have played here frequently for the past three months, and here is what I have learned:
The course is an average to below average municipal course. It is a little overpriced. The general crowd on the course is sometimes a bit unsophisticated , and pace of play can get pretty bad. But 2 stars is fair, I think, for the playing experience.
The staff there are almost all jerks. For instance, I took my daughter to play there recently. The "gentleman" in the pro shop said, "ummm, she can't be on the course." I said why not??? He said she's too young. I said she's already played here four times. His skepticism continued, and he eventually went to "ask his boss." He came back and as reluctantly as possible said "ok she can play." So I'd love a comment on that - is it kids you don't like, or just female kids? Somehow I'm betting a young boy would not have been met with such disdain. (BTW, there is a woman who sometimes works in the pro shop, and she is an exception. She is friendly and professional. There is also one older man who has always been nice. But outside of those two folks, I can really barely stand interacting with the staff here.)
They are the staff at a mediocre muni course, but they act like you're trying to play at Congressional. I showed up Sunday at 1:30. No one on 1, no one on 2, and no one in the parking lot loading up to go play. So the course is wide open. I go into the pro shop, and the man working greets me like I'm his least favorite chore. I tell him I'd love to play nine holes. "And you don't have a tee time?" He's shaking his head like I'm some kind of criminal. He tells me I'm "lucky" they're not too busy.
Guys, let me tell you something - I've been out there enough to know that your first tee is frequently open. You can give it a rest with the act that a tee time is some kind of golden ticket to an exclusive country club.
In the end, there aren't many other options in the area, and this lack of competition is reflected in the prices and attitudes you will encounter. But it is a playable golf course, so when you go, just set your expectations...
Read morePrice was for this course was good. The greens were in pretty good shape. The staff was great. All of that being said, I hate playing this course.
The fairways are all sloped and are barely different from the rough. They're extremely patchy so even if you had a good shot you'll end up hitting off dirt in between patches of shorter crabgrass. I hit multiple shots that shot at sharp angles off of chunks of grass in between patches of dirt. If you lift and place after every shot, then this would be acceptable.
The plot of land is not large enough for a golf course. If you can drive the ball longer than 250 yards you might be able to drive one time on the entire course. Almost every hole is a dog leg left or right and the trees are so overgrown into the course that it plays extremely narrow if you can elevate the ball at all.
I understand that there are not many courses in the general vicinity of this one, and as I mentioned the price is reasonable, but I don't think it is an enjoyable golf course to play. There's no benefit to hitting the ball long on almost any...
Read moreA really good course! Well maintained and a bit challenging. Reminds me of Fairway Hills in Columbia, MD. It plays harder then it looks. The staff are always pleasant & personable and they have a small but nice "19th" hole where you can eat, drink and chat with friends. There's a screened in area where you can enjoy a cigar as well. I have played here about dozen times in past 2 years. I highly recommend it. Price is right. As a senior I pay $25 for 9holes with cart on weekdays. Can't...
