You donât get it, do you?
Said the salesman to the customer. What he didnât seem to get, is that this is not how you talk to customers.
How it unfolded: I visited the store last Sunday, looking for some good plywood for a home project. The 4x4 that I wanted was a bit too big to fit into my car, so I asked if it could be cut. The man in sales (who was actually very nice) double checked with his boss and told me that they could cut it, just not that day because there was a class going on in the wood-shop. So, I came back today. Store empty. Three employees doing nothing. Well, except for the one eating. I asked about the cutting. First guy said plain no. Then I told him about my info from Sunday. Eating guy chipped in and said that the wood-shop is set up for a class and that they cannot do it because they would have to change the blade of the table saw. That was a bit of a bummer, and they pretty much let me hang that way, but I decided to ask if I could call in another day to ask if it is possible to cut then - and that I wouldnât want to drive over a third time for nothing. It seemed that they didnât expect that question, looked at each other, somewhat reluctantly said yes, and handed me a business card. Not a word about what times might be good to call or anything. At that point the eating guy started mumbling something about the workshop again and I â without asking for anything - made the statement âlooks like the saw blade thatâs in the table saw now is too rough for fine cutsâ. Ok, I did hint that if the blade was fine, they could have totally gone in there and cut the sheet. The class was still 40min out and there were three grown guys doing nothing. But I would have left it as that.
Here comes the interesting part: What I said seemed to have triggered something in the eating guy. He gave me a sarcastic smile (still chewing and with food in his face) and said: âYou donât get it, do you? We are not going to cut the wood for you today!â I can hear my inner self saying âwow, I cannot believe what I just saw and heard, thatâs a plain insult!â But I played nice and explained that I understood that and that I just made a comment about the saw blade. That was met with complete ignorance, an extra one of those âyou idiotâ smiles and telling me that they wonât cut the wood for me today. At this point I flung the business card into the air and told them that I am not coming back. Before leaving I also asked the eating guy if he is really working in sales, because with that attitude towards customers, he shouldnât. He seemed upset about it. I guess that he didnât get it.
Conclusion: I do not like outright negative reviews. But feeling like having been spit in the face by three lazy, anti-social guys today is just beyond what I can take. On the good side: the store has a great selection of products, the guy from Sunday was nice and helpful and there was another seller on the floor who seemed nice as well. The manager was a grouch though. But I would go back into this store â if I had a guarantee that all three guys from today are locked into the backroom and not allowed to talk to...
Read moreI love this place !!! They are so helpful.. They really do go above and beyond especially Rosie... all of the staff there is filled with knowledge .. I guess I would consider myself a novice woodworker that may even be a Little more than I deserve lol but I am new to the lathe and Rosie went above and beyond to share any knowledge she had which was a tremendous help to me also take it a step further About an hour after I left I received a phone call it was Rosie advising me about the proper face shield.. nobody else anywhere would do something like that To actually care enough hours later to call and remind me how imperative it is to use full face protection while using a lathe ...thank you all so...
Read moreI absolutely love visiting this store. For the longest time I had no clue it was so close to where I live. My husband has a talent with woodworking and I love his hobby. This store has everything or anything a woodworker or hobbiest could ever need or wish for. I have actually taken up some projects for myself and can't wait to finish them.
