Golden Key Realty — Local services in Warner Robins

Going to “expound” on my experiences at the request of the business, but don’t expect anything will be done about it. Not gonna give all the details of my experience because GKR has already wasted enough of my time.

This happened a couple of years ago but still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. My fiancée and I were looking to rent from GKR. Made an appointment and the lady basically forgot about us. She was quick to show up after we called tho so didn’t think much of it.

Anyway we looked at the house, were interested and ready to apply and put the deposit down. Before we went through the process, we asked the lady if there had been any others who applied. We asked this because we wanted to know whether we might need to plan a contingency in case it got rented to a previous applicant first. The lady even called the office to check, and we were reassured no one had applied. Put in the app and paid the fee that same day. $50 bucks each.

So we wait and wait, thinking this is pretty much a done deal and they’re trying to tie things up with the owner. Two weeks with NO COMMUNICATION WHATSOEVER. Finally decided to call and found out that THE HOUSE WAS RENTED TO SOMEONE ELSE. NO effort to contact us and let us know. NO indication that we weren’t approved, or even that we WERE approved to rent a house from them. I mean A BIG FAT NOTHING.

By this point we were screwed because we had maybe a couple of weeks before our current lease went up. We actually told the lady this and she reassured us, but then apparently forgot about us again. I’m not going to call her out specifically because this was clearly an error by GKR as a whole, though she did play a big part. We ended up having to renew at the place we were staying before because GOLDEN KEY’S COMMUNICATION WAS GARBAGE. This ended up costing us more than the rent of the house we applied for. The interest we got after finding out seemed perfunctory, with the lady apologizing and saying we could try for another house they had listed. No interest whatsoever when we weren’t biting on a house that cost $200 more per month and was bigger than we even needed. We could have paid for it but GKR annihilated any trust we had in their competency.

I get stuff happens. I really do. What I don’t get is how you simply forget about customers who have paid you for a service. If I was any pettier I’d be strongly tempted to litigate based on promissory estoppel, as we depended on GKR to come thru based on their reassurances, and they failed MISERABLY, putting us in a bad position.

Guess we didn’t make enough of an impression to be worth remembering to GKR. That’s okay though, because GKR made a big impression on me. So much so that we will be going out of our way to ensure that GKR doesn’t make another single PENNY off of us in any realty transactions we have in the future. We discussed credit before wasting our money on your application. We discussed additional deposits and other ways to demonstrate our worthiness. We were told that you could work with us on credit score if it was a little off. Our income was 5-6X the monthly rent at the property we wanted, we had a solid 3 year rental recommendation, more than enough to pay additional deposits.... Ive also rented from other agencies in the area with worse credit than we had at that time a year ago. But it's all water under the bridge. As promised, our scores are up and we just purchased a home. I can't tell you how many Golden Key properties we just drove right on by. ✌230k that you won't get a penny in comissions off of.

Original review below: Wouldn't even give them one star if I didn't have to just to write this review. We applied for a rental property and were told that they could work with us on our credit- My score was 4 points below their requirement as I am actively in the process of trying to rebuild my credit. We have more than sufficient income, and the appropriate rental recommendations. We paid our application fee only to be denied on the basis of 'not meeting their credit minimum'. WHAT A SCAM!!!! Our denial email was completely impersonal and void of any human emotion what-so-ever. Not even a fake apology, or a generic "best wishes" .. nothing other than "thanks for your application fee, we appreciate you purchasing coffee and toilet paper for the office" basically. The woman tasked with emailing me and telling me to go screw myself couldn't even be bothered to discuss discrepancies with me, or to tell me where they pulled my consumer report from. I had to do my own digging to figure that out. I guess if you have great credit and are looking for a place to rent you could give Golden Key a chance, but I'll tell everyone I know whether they want to rent or buy to steer clear of this place. My credit score wont be low for long, and we'll be looking to purchase- I'll make sure to not step foot in a Golden...
